pda's are retarded.. i cant stand them, i mean, i think their cool, but supporting them for doctors suckkkkkkkks!!!!! ( i work at a hospital, pc tech. doc's = teh suck. )

Visuals, mp3s, highly functional GPS navigation, DVDs, rear-view camera, and in the future obd-ii diagnostics. You're right about the price, but thats mainly because of the screen and head unit (and fried parts).

(mswerd), and you need lots of space for stuff like that, and an "old" laptop won't cut it in most cased. Granted, my laptop came off Ebay, but was not to old for the task. Routis GPS is the s*** man! Thanks ELEmental59437 for the "suggestion!!"(thumb)

Linux have you considered getting the AEM EMS when your carputer is in? I see you already have the MPI piggyback...

I really wouldn't worry about the hard drive dying due to normal road bumps. There are many people out there that have carputers and drive in states like new jersey and have no problems.

Ive been talking to www.autonode.com There screens seem to be the s***!!! i will like to get this one http://autonode.com/ig700.html . they said they will sell them starting mid july and will sell them at wholesale due to delays from manufactureror.

The digitalww screens look good too. Im not sure what ill go with. Depends if these are out by the tiem aug. rolls around.

hhhmm...sounds like a plan. That site didn't have the price of the Single Din Computers....also, getting one of them touchscreen monitors and hooking a laptop up to it wouldn't be difficult? Would it be a plug n play thing?

its vitually plug and play with a docking station (laugh)

sit in car, laptop goes into docking station. leave car, laptop comes out. its gonna be badass.

Here is teh reply i got from autonode:

Thank you for your interest and patience in waiting for these
products. We have received many inquiries and hope to answer your
questions with this notification.

GAIN INC is the manufacturer and we have no control over their release
schedule. We realize these displays have been delayed several times since
their introduction and we, too, would like to see them released ASAP.

GAIN has informed us that the half motorized model of the non DVD version
will be released middle of July and that the fully motorized non DVD version
will be released in September/October. The DVD versions have been
pushed back to sometime in Q4 of this year. Obviously, we can not take these
release dates too seriously and we are taking a "wait and see" approach.

In response to the GAIN product delay, we are dropping the prices of
all GAIN products permanently. Due to popular demand, we have decided
to begin selling direct to everyone at low wholesale prices. We will
no longer sell exclusively to resellers. Furthermore, we will have no
quantity requirements and there will be no need to set up a wholesale
account to get wholesale pricing. We will be offering all of our
products at wholesale prices to anyone through our new on-line store
opening in July. We will also be providing you a discount which can be
used in our new store worth $50 off any number of GAIN displays in a
single order.

The one with the dvd built in would be extremely nice due to me not having to mess with teh dvd drive on the laptop.

I hope autonode has their stuff together soon, or i will be a happy digitalww customer.
