cargo capacity vs prior generation

2011 cx9 gt
Hey all, I'm looking at the newest gen cx9 to replace my current 2011 CX9 GT. I note the listed cargo capacity on my older mazda for space behind 1st/2nd/3rd row as 100.7/48.4/17.5 cu feet respectively. This is listed as much larger than the new cx9 where I find 71.2/38.2/14.4 cu feet respectively.

Is the newer cx9 really that much smaller, or is a different in measuring technique? Numbers are numbers, but can anyone please comment to me on their real-world experience with cargo when moving from the older to newer gen cx9?

Thanks!

Ive owned both. The new CX-9 has much less storage than the old one. And less than most 3-row SUVs in general.

Yeah, this is one of the things that bothered me when the 2nd Gen CX-9 was released... it basically went from having the largest cargo capacity in it's class to having the smallest in it's class...yet it has a really long wheel base... form over function, having said that I'm still considering it as a top potential for my next vehicle.
