I was wondering if anyone had a cargo area bike rack? Are our cargo areas even tall and wide enough for this kind of a setup? I figured for in-town, this would be fine to get to a local trail or something. Something similar to these examples:

Ive tried things along these lines. my bike has a rigid fork with no suspension compensation and it wont fit with the front end toward the back of the car, but it will barely barely fit with the front end facing foward in the car. our cars really are kinda short for cargo area but get your bike in there and see if it fits! all bikes are different so who knows

also i have the factory sub set up so my rear cargo area is raised up maybe 3-4 inches higher than one without it so it could maybe fit facing backwards, but still you can see in the picture that my bike isnt perfectly straight in the back, its turned to the side a tad to make it fit.

I just use the saris bones hatch/bumper rack if mud on roof or aerodynamics on long trip will be issue or just use the roof racks. Too much hassle jacking with seatpost and handlebars before and after riding and reassembling when done plus not wanting to abuse the inside of the car. However, we do stick 2 bikes in the back of the xterra when my buddy drives to trails with just front tire removal. It is nice to haul them like that but no worky very good in our cars.

I think you'd need to be riding 20" bikes to get one to fit standing up. I do a lot of riding so installed a hitch rack and have a Kuat NV rack.

I was afraid of that. It's simply not big enough of a hatch/cargo area to do this setup and have easy access.
