so i have been having problems with my car pinging under exceleration, i used some cleaner that went into the vaccum hose it helped a little .. but now its back and even worse. If i put 91 oct fuel in my car it helps a little, but its starting to get expensive. The car pings like crazy!! and on top of that when i come to a stop my idle drops so low the car shakes and almost stalls, and the oil pressure light starts flickering like crazy...anyone know whats causing this??(help)

Bye Bye rod bearing. Reason I know, my car is down @ Mazda right now getting a fresh engine installed. Thank God for my extended warranty. New engine direct from Mazda costs $6k. No way I can afford that.
You will most likely have to replace the crankshaft and the bearings. Maybe even a rod or 2 if one was knocking the other. My rod bearings on my #2 cylinder went and I took it in. Turns out Mazda ****** themselves. When they checked my car, they diagnosed it as pre-ignition. And said my 5 was running as mechanically designed. The Techs thought it was just bad gas and dismissed the knocking to that. I get the car back, drive back to work. Then I drive home later that day only to find myself on the side of the street wondering WTF just occured.
OOOOOPS! Mazda dropped the ball, but escaped because my warranty covered it. Lucky ducky...Oh man, I would've had their ass if I had gotten into an accident or if I didn't have an extended coverage. Even though they were bitching about my "mods". Ha ha, SRI & a catback exhaust...that's gonna make your engine go ka-put especially w/only 38k on the ODO & a detaioled record of servicing...uh huh, yeah riiiight.

crap...my car has slight pinging too...i think ill check it out and if i have to, ill bring it into the stealership and hope that they dont b**** about my mods...the last time i went, they blamed it on my exhaust but when i brought it back without the exhaust, they blamed it on the gas...tne noise is still there although theres no oil pressure lights flashing or anything...although the idle is a bit low...

Ohhh, brain fart. Gas is being switched over to "winter blend" MEaning 87 octane is actually like 84, 89 is like 86 and 93 is 90 or lower. (winter air=cold they want toe fuel to ignite easier) this will give you a ping sound sometimes depending on driving conditions and/or Mods.

I would strongly suggest you get to a shop ASAP, as we have no actual way of diagnosing your car via the net. Not being a jerk, its just not that simple. :D We can point ya in the right direction, but cant tell ya whats really wrong.

And take your mods off....they will give you an ear full...especially since I just went through the BS w/them 2 weeks ago.

WHAT?? If it says 87 then it is 87.

Anyone tried fuel system cleaners? Royal Purple >> chevron's water with techron etc...

I ONLY use shell gas and even at 87 I have had zero issues. Outside of the screw falling into the engine, everything runs fine.

Losing #2 rod bearing is a common occurance. I lost it at 30K. Luckily they did not say anything about my mods.

Ummm no its not. Trust me, the gas comapnies WILL lower the octane raitings in the winter. Remember the higher the rating the harder it is to burn. The lower the easier. In the winter, the ratings are actually lower then what the pump says to allow the fuel to burn easier in the colder weather.

Most people running boost, or upped boost will blow thier motors in the winter. Not beccause of the "colder, denser air" but because the octane is lower.

No doubt, I got lucky. But then again, there aren't that many modded Mazdas around here...versus, the California dealers.

Sounds like you lost a rod bearing. Not good. Lots of $$. What is the oil level?

acutally i have been having oil problems..its ok now, but 2000miles ago, i ran out of oil abnromaly..i was like 4 quarts under..it happend twice..thats when i switched back to reg oil from synthetic

I am sorry but you are DEAD WRONG Here...They cant do that by law...If they did that then they would be committing fraud and deceiving people....That would be a CLASS ACTION lawsuit waiting to happen...Sorry Bro but you are way off base here...If you cant show proof...Drop it before it blows up on you.
If it says 87,89,91,93,or 94....then thats what it is because you ARE paying for it.
PERIOD!

Ill have it Matt. :D Trust me bro. Its the actual additives they add as opposed to the "summer" gas or what not. We were talking about it in my Engine Performance class last nite. :D

Everyone else does.....For everything...Why not this...Lets get a CAL together!

From Sunoco's website http://www.sunocoinc.com/market/transportation_fuels.htm#Octane

Octane

Octane is a measure of the antiknock quality of gasoline. The octane number posted on service station dispensers and listed in car owner's manuals is an average of two measurements: Research octane number and Motor octane number. These octane numbers are determined using a laboratory test engine operated at different temperatures and speeds to simulate different driving conditions. The average of these two numbers, (R+M)/2, provides an indication of on-road performance. Most car owner's manuals recommend a certain octane but advise owners to increase octane if they detect audible knock or unsatisfactory performance.

So, as you can see, as long as the AVERAGE number is 87, 89, 93, 94 then they can sell it. Im still looking for the info on the differences, because there ARE differences, so be patient. :D

Im having the same problem, ill have my car in next week, ill post what they find. Do you have a knocking\pinging sound that is noticable at ~3000 rpms, with more gas it goes away, with less it stands out more, only thing is im not burning oil, nor have I ever had it get low or had a flickering oil light come on. I already took my mods off, cept short shifter and axle back exhaust, they shouldnt give me and crap for that right? (sorry for thread jacking) but damn there seems to be like a half dozen people having the SAME exact problem, as of right now. 91 didnt do crap for me, I did have a slight vibration, I added some lucas oil treatment for synthetic, and it actually helped out a bit. Im going to change my oil monday, so they cant blame that on the engine ******* up. Hope everything works out for you, im still under warrenty (thank god, otherwise I would have been forced to "misplace" my car in mexico and be like OMG my car was stolen while at the beach...
