Car running after shutoff

My car (2006 Speed6) kinda continues running for about a half-second after I turn off the ignition... the engine sounds upset while it does this... as though it's like, "Hey, why are you leaving me?"

Regarding the running after shutoff, is this normal?

Regarding me thinking my engine is talking to me, is this normal?

Ive noticed this on mine as well. you would think when you turn the key and kill the spark it would die immediatly...

there is still some rotating mass that keeps the car chugging air for a few revolutions. My car seems to do about 5.

yeah, this is normal. IIRC, a buddy was saying this is because our clutch/flywheel is really heavy and takes a sec to chill out when you cut the power, lol. He said w/ a much lighter aftermarket one, it just shuts right off.

That is exactly true. With my Fidanza flywheel and Spec clutch the engine ceases to turn when I kill the ignition. This was not the case when I had the stock flywheel and clutch.

Just a note, the entire clutch/flywheel mass of the Fidanza+Spec versus Mazdaspeed+Mazdaspeed(stock) is about 24 pounds lighter in all. That is a TON of weight.

Holy cow. however with a lighter flywheel is much harder to launch? Heavy flywheel gives more interial when you let the clutch out...

I registered a 4.3 second 0-60 with launch control and flat foot shifting with the setup I have below if that tells you anything.
