Polishing your car

How often do you polish your car?

Please dont confuse this with waxing your car, it is completely different.

i did every 2-5, because ive owned my car for 3 years, and only done it once....

I would do it once every 2-5 years if the Mazda 3 which I am driving for one last day didnt have such thin paint and on top of that it's black, so here I got no choice. The good thing is that my dealer only charges 150$ CAD + taxes to polish the entire car.

i took my 2003.5 msp to this custom bodyshop here in town and had them detail it inside and out then they wet sanded the top layer of clear coat, which is the layer that holds all the inperfections of the paint job. now i have no swirls, scratches, water spots.etc..... it is so shiny that the car looks wet at all times and is much easier to keep clean. i was told to polish it every 2 years to keep it looking that good. it cost me $200.00 and it was well worth it.

i do mine twice a year with the good stuff and every wash in between with the wax as you dry from Eagle 1.
Once before winter, once before summer.
But if a shop does it like yours i would say every 2 years would be fine. I use to detail cars for Lincoln Mercury in PA, what a kick ass job that was!
each car took about 2-3 hours and you got to drive around in a lot of different cars all the time. I think my best was when the Mark 8 first came out and i realized that at highway speeds it lowered itself automatically, now that blew my mind back then.

[Your poll is biased towards hardly ever waxing] I hand polish every spring and fall, so twice a year. Plus during the winter I'll use the gas stations car wash once a month to get the underbody spray to get some of the salt and crap off. But I tend to keep my vehicles until death do us part- about 10-14 years and I don't want the body shot to soon.

that's the way to do it. All that snow and salt will just rust away your car if you don't keep a good coat on it. Even though i'm down south now i still follow the before summer, before winter rules i had in PA.

Wait a minute, what exactly do you mean by polishing then?

the polishing waxes probably do a similar job, just not as good as a seperate polish designed to just polish.

check the meguires site, it actually has some really cool info on car cleaning stuff sometimes.

200.00 bucks, that's an amazing deal for what you got.
