How did much your car insurance went up as a result of purchasing a cx-7.
I have Travelers they rate the cx-7 in the same class as an Evo, Sti, Mustang, 350z. I pay here in NJ close to $2300 a year no points, no accidents and a clean record. The only thing I do have is the bodily injury coverage is set to 500k and other things not much higher then standard coverage that others might have, since my company requires this.

I'm 52, live in northern VA and pay $59 a month, full coverage. The CX-7 is the only vehicle on my insurance policy

Here's the detail:

BODILY INJURY LIABILITY
EACH PERSON/EACH OCCURRENCE $100,000/$300,000
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY $100,000
UNINSURED MOTORISTS BODILY INJURY
EACH PERSON/EACH OCCURRENCE $100,000/$300,000
PROPERTY DAMAGE $50,000
EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE FULL
RENTAL REIMBURSEMENT $750 MAX
MULTI-RISK
INCLUDES: COMPREHENSIVE $500 DED
COLLISION $500 DED
MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN $250 DED

integrity - i have trav. as well - my ins went up about 150 bucks from my previous car - 04 2 dr V6 Accord. Not sure what category its rated in, but maybe that helps.

Ours went up a little from her previous '06 Corolla S. We're with Liberty Mutual, full coverage, a few tickets and an accident puts us right around the $75 a month mark. :)

I'd switch insurance companies.

I had a Subaru WRX (not STi) and they gave it a symbol of 24 if I recall correctly. The CX-7 has a symbol of 14. The wifes 06 Chrysler Town&Country has a symbol of 10.

My insurance went down considerably after trading in my 05 WRX.
We have 100,000/300,000 on both vehicles and $250 deductable.

We pay $100 a month. Was $125 with the WRX on there.

My 6 month premium went up about $30 (previous car was 1998 honda civic) for the same coverage. But then it went up another $50 when i decided to lower my deductable. Strangely, the CX-7 cost less to insure than the RAV-4 (the other car i was considering) would have.

You serious less than rav4?

Hello! I know this thread is about the CX-7 but I couldn't help to tell you that I have a Mazdaspeed3 GT and I pay $608 per year. My MS3 is surely in the same class as the EVO, Sti's etc. For you to be paying $2300, something is wrong somewhere. If I were you, I'd be making some insurance quote phone calls.

Oh I don't know about that...I hear those drivers from New Jersey are pretty loopy...It's entirely appropriate to jack up those insurances rate up there! (yes) LOL

* Ok I just came back from getting quotes since some of you mentioned it was high.I found out I actually have the cheapest, because since I am a field service tech (Site to Site)so the vehicle is considered business use. As a result this is why I am paying this amount.

it's considered an SUV or multi-purpose activity vehicle. Insurance costs more for SUV's, plain and simple. My insurance went down when i sold my Montero and got my Mazda5.

yeah they'll stick you with BU/ Business Use too. It could up to a 15% increase on your total premium. maybe you should've not revealed the whole truth. :P If you ever switch carriers if they dont ask, then dont tell them it's for work. They'll still cover it if you are in an accident and find out later. they will just end up giving you the rate increase at that point in time.

Sorry, but I agree it falls in the SUV category however, I disagree price wise. Why? Because sitting in my garage next to my Mazdaspeed3 is a brand new Chevy Suburban 4X4 with every option possible and I pay ~$100 less per year than my MS3.

*edit* forgeting the most important part, what increases the price is the turbo.

Yeah, but only by about 5 bucks (silly) I had the insurance guy quote me on both cars, since I was right on the fence about which one to buy.

insurance companies use quite a few different things to determine how much they're gonna ****..i mean charge you.

Zip Code (yes most still charge you more or less depending on where you live)
Years of driving experience
violations
annual miles driven
the type of vehicle (this is interesting) As an example, at my company someone who owns a 5 series BMW will pay as much as someone who owns an EVO. Why is that you ask? Sure the 5 series costs more but they have to compensate for the amount of damage that someone driving is likely to cause due to the fact that it is a "high performance car". If you look at the cost difference between someone who drives a 4 banger mustang and someone who drives a Mustang GT the price difference is like night and day.

Then you have to factor in any discounts. these are a few of the ones available in California
Good Driver (25%)-less than one violation in the past 3 years and 3 years continuous license meaning no suspensions in those 3 years

Married driver discount (20%)

Good student discount (10%) for student under 23 or 24 (cant remember the exact age) with a B average

i cant think of anything else at the moment.

Also, don't forget your credit scores. Industry trend - insurance companies are increasingly looking at your credit score to determine your premium. Bunch of bull if you ask me. I can't understand how your credit rating determines insurance risk? I don't understand that logic. I would love to have someone in the insurance industry defend this practice.

Hey all...just wanted to give an update...full coverage for my CX7 - 250/500/100 went down from $98.67 per month to $80.67 per month. That includes an accident my wife was involved, in which my ins. company had to fork out 10k+ in damages + rental for almost 3 months which they then had to go back and collect from the other prick's insurance company. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it.
