It happened just a few days ago. Whenever I shift into 3rd gear, it'll grind very slightly. All the other gears are fine and shift smoothly. I have no clue if the syncro went bad or if i just need a flush. Any ideas?

mine started being difficult goin into 3rd especially below freezing before it warmed up and got worse down to 0 degrees here. Drained the stock trans fluid switched to Redline MT 90. Much better and it's been the coldest winter here in 50 years.

02 or 03? Have you missed any shifts or had any problems that might have caused it? Does it just grind a bit going in or what?

its an 02. i missed a shift a few days prior but nothing was wrong then. yea, is grind a but when going in. the only time it wont is if i have the clutch in for like a good 2 seconds before i shift(slow shift). i do have warranty on the car. would a synco be covered?

i have an 02 and get the occasional grind in 3rd but it hasnt happened in a while because i got my tranny fluid changed out. but if something is wrong warranty should cover it.

There's not going to be a warranty left on a 7 year-old car, regardless of miles  Anyways, I would try changing your tranny fluid. It may help, it may not. But at least you'll have new tranny fluid :)

I would agree...try fluid first...I use Redline MT90 and love it, some guys have had success with GM Synchromesh as well. It does sound like a synchro though.

u can have an extended warranty with the dealer, i had one that actually just ran out in november!

SAME EXACT THING IS HAPPENING WITH ME!! i just got a new clutch not to long ago, and i just replaced the tranny fluid so idk whats going on

is it hard to get into 3rd?

if its hard to get in it could be the linkage in teh tranny. it happened to me and its a slitghy common problem.

had to get the part changed and had them change out the syncros while they were at. everything else was cherry

linkage? well i gots no warranty and no moneys...i got to pay to fix my bike
sucks how everything always seems to break at the same time

about how much were all those parts?

lol extended factory warranty when i bought the car last month :). i got 2 years of warranty that covers everything

but no its not hard at all. it just grinds. i can feel the grind when it goes in for about a second. i'll just shift slower so the syncros can match up better and take it to a dealer whenever i can

Honesly I've read some of the most senseless things some of these people say about riggin stuff up and taking shortcuts and the cheap way out or the expensive way out, on do it yourself mods or repairs.Things that are obviously done wrong and with no planning or patience. You ever wonder why you give advice, when no one listens? i keep tellin myself I wont waste my time but I always end up doin it anyways. Didn't they read what I wrote except you and slavernz. And MTV nice lookin ride man, but maybe you shouldn't go for the worst case right off the bat.I don't know everything, but at least I try to listen. Shame on me right.

Hi

Try a search. I remember when I first got my 2002 I read that the 3rd gear syncros weren't great and there was a carbon syncro ring that could replace the stock one. I just shift a little slower and have no troubles.

Would double-clutching temporarily help until it’s fixed? I occasionally get a grind when its cold, and double-clutching helps me.

"You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car... Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake! You almost had me?"

histerical.

anywho. YEah mine broke as I was going into work and I was stuck in 3rd. not fun driving 45 mph for 90+ miles to work only to find out your now stuck.

I didnt do the work since I was stuck at work and didnt want to deal with that. good thing becuase hte part they replace was showing the same symptoms like before and they ahd to redo it again.

no issues since then. cost me about $1800.
