2003 Black P5
Hello All,

I will probably get my p5 over the weekend. I was looking into alarms and was wondering what you guys recommend? I am lookign into the Compustar dealy and that looks pretty damn cool. Is that hard to install?

You are wise to get aftermarket. My OEM alarm has started going crazy. Last night it went off in front of my house in a stiff breeze, and it is tripped every time I engage it in the parking garage at work. Not sure what the hell the problem is - I can engage it, grab the door handles, and it won't flinch. But leave it alone in a 2MPH wind and it goes ape.

I don't know much about aftermarket alarms, but they are probably a good purchase. I may make the same switch soon after I take in my P5 alarm to the dealer for a "lookin' over."

I would recommend a Compustar. I have one myself that includes the alarm and remote starting. I really like the fact that it pages back to you if the alarm is going off as well as letting you know when the car successfully starts etc. I didn't do the install myself, but it cost me $140 CAD which I think is about average for the install. Unless you have a really good background in alarms and electronics, I'd say you should leave it up to a professional to install most alarms.

Compustar is an excellent alarm system. Next in line, I like the Avital Avistart alarms manufactured by DEI. As for installation, unless you really know what you are doing, I would leave it to a professional. Remember, an alarm system is only going to be as good as its installation. I used to install alarm systems on a regular basis years back. Let me just tell you, i've really seen some hack job installations. If you do decide to install it yourself, some good information is available at www.the12volt.com. Also, try and make all wiring as obscure as possible. Personally, I blend the aftermarket alarm's wiring into the factory wiring looms so it looks stock.

Thanks for the input. I just called my local Compustar dealer. They said that the 2wss is 500 installed and the 2wfm is 400. I think the only difference is the transmission distance and the pager vibrates. You think this is worth the 100? I don't see myself being more than 1/4 mile and less than 1mile anyway.

Go for the 2WSS. Especially at $500. Hell mine cost me $650 and one local dealer quoted me at $875:wtf: It's a great setup but the technology is goofy, for a lack of a better word. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to lock my car standing right next to it....oh well.

I ahve the 732t hornet you standard alarm system no fm pager and no remote start. But its one of the best ones out there i picked it up for 85 but thats because i get a deal. it normal costs about 125-150 depending on where you get it. Install is not as hard as one might think and some place that ahve so called "pros" are not very pro like i have mine installed b a real pro one of the best around and it cost about 75 because i knwo the guy and i had to buy osme acuator for the door locks.

Amyn alarms are great DEI is one of the best makers in alarms BUT its all in having the install because you will see posts here that people had alarms and the car was broken into and the robber simple un plugged the brian unit and that had the stereo and everything they need.
My alarm is well in my dash and all the wires are taped so you can see what cut and you dont know where it is leading.

DO you research as great as a pager is a 1/4 isnt that long and in sure the signal weakns throuh building, im very happy with my alarm and i paid a fractoin off the cost.

Well Thanks again for the great input. I think I am going to do the Compustar ss. I just talked to the shop and they all are hella cool!!! They said I can come over and they will take me on a test drive on one of their cars. They all have compustar installed on their system. I called compustar yesterday and asked about a proximity sensor. They said they don't have one but there is an input for one. He also told me to get the one from Direct Electronics. Anyone see this one? I really can't find any info on this. Does anyone have a prox sensor?
