Ok, so im getting to the point where i think someone may just want to steal my car someday, and that would piss me off beyond belief considering the amount of time and money ive put into it.

i really cant afford something like a compustar probably, but i need something that would really deter someone from stealing my s***. maybe something with a motion sensor that i could adjust the sensitivity or even a generic alarm with a pager thing.

what ami looking at to have someone install this? what did you all pay for your alarms, and what features, etc did it come with? have you ever installed your own alarms? ill prolly think of more questions but im just tyring to get a feel...i hear that arizona is the car stealing capital of the world...so im a little nervous.

find someone you know that works at best buy and get a nice discount on DEI alarm systems.

Tweeter wants $120 for an install

matthew..
when u get an alarm. buy all the additional pins..
you should have, all 4 doors, hood, hatch. set on pins, another good idea is to run a second siren somewhere where no one can see it, i would also put 2 small horns inside the cabin.. something very high decible.. starter kill is a good thing.. glass break sensor is good and proximity that chirps first then goes off is good..
trust me. spend the money on a good alarm. it pays off in the end.
and if your like me.. get a fm one with a pager.. so u can see what side of the car they are on so u kno what to shoot at.

i have the clifford rs3 work at best buy cost on it is $138 plus i had to pay about !80 for install and all the extras. Mine has a perimeter senser that gives the says protected by D.E.I. i have modules so that i can put all 5 of windows down(fifth is sunroof) remote start and comes with a valet button incase battery on remote goes dead. The remote shows a pic of your car and shows where at your car was hit. Instead of using the 1 red led that came with it i used 2 ble leds and put each one in the non moveable vents next to the rearview mirrors that way you can c the blue lights flashing from both sides of the car through my tint. Also have the fuel cut off as well

But yea like mypfizzle said find sum 1 that works at a store that carrires them and get the discount retail is $500 but it does include basic installation.

Dude... if you want your car back then get lo-jack. It goes fo about 800.00 for everything. if u want the chip then its 500.00. It just depends if u ever want to see ur car again. Good Luck.

i'd have to say, most of the theft's around here are dropped off within one mile, and stripped.

then when I ask myself, is it really worth my $800 to find my stripped car all ****** up in the woods?

maybe if i was driving a (stock) high end car that wouldnt get stripped...otherwise-NO

Compustar is great but its only advantage is the range plus its a new company. Without a doubt the most secure/best systerms are made by DEI. They have a huge variety so you could get something in your price range. Talk to Pirana he really knows his stuff. If possible try to do what mypfizzle said, my system includes all those accessories also.

i got a prestige cheap-o alarm, but it's the best alarm ive had so far, it is set very sensitive to where you can just tap anywhere on the car and it goes off(alarm is loud and obnoxious). It was around 150 bucks installed and ive never had a problem, and it's saved me a few times when people have tried to break into it...

thats what im trying to hear. im looking for something like that because its cheap and if you **** with it, it goes off loud as hell. so i wouldnt need all the sensors because if you touched anything it would go off.

first things first, get an alarm with a battery bakup, if it doesnt have a battery backup it is a complete waste. all those bells and whistles are worthless without battery backup.

i prefer clifford, they make a solid product.

What is better then a battery backup is a mechanical hood lock a must have if you don't want anybody messin with stuff under there.

I have the compustar with most of the bells & whistles. i didn't read your mod list, but ... if you don't have a TT already, the compustar has it, and also has remote start. good 2 stage sensor, paging etc. Basic system was $500 CDN installed, the bells & whistles were extra (mercury hood sensor, piezzo (sp?) siren in the cabin, battery backup, electric trunk release). Why not spend the $ on an alarm instead of the next mod. Totally worth it IMO. Or, get this: (headbang)

I also have a prestige alarm with a pager(with the car icon on it) it's a really good alarm for the money I got it through my dad at a good price but they are still relatively cheap. You can adjust the sensitivity on just about any alarm. Also has fuel cut off, remote start, blah blah... with the mine you can even call from a phone and start, unlock, lock etc..pretty handy if you lock yourself out or remote battery dies...

The backup battery siren is a must.
Putting an alarm brain under the dash is asking for your car to get stolen.
Don't even use the damn valet switch.
A hood and trunk pin are essential.
Don'thave any exposed wiring under the hood that is accessable from under the car.
Get a shock/glass sensor.
Also they have sensors that can sense if the car is level so that if someone tries to simply tow the car away, it will go off.

Keep in mind that most people ignore alarms so the siren can be useless if you don't hear it. Thats why the 2 way is a good idea. Also I worked with a kid that had a two way, and by the time he got outside, the radio in his car and the theif was already gone. Nothingis fail safe and often, its not the car the theif is after.

I want a alarm but can't find some one I trust to do install. Here is my ideas:

-remote located brain box (under center console or under rear seat) with battery backup
-relocated horn to a secure location possibly two horns (one horn located under rear)with a varible pattern so it sounds like there is someone in the car beeping the horn.
-Aux output hooked to 5 piezo tweeters inside the car, that would make it unbearable to sit in if set off
-paging system
-starter disable
-hood tilt switch
-vechicle tilt with proximity switch
- other basic features

Tell me where I can find one and I will buy it?????

well even if u have a hood lock on allot of cars a theif could reach his hand up from under the car and snip the battery wires, and without a battery backup the siren would never go off.

Iam new to the Dallas area so I haven't met you but I worked as an installer before and can tell you wether you get a $150 alarm or a $500 dollar alarm you still have an alarm. DEI I think is one of the most trust worthy alarms companies out there, any thing from Avital to Viper to Clifford and so many more. I have seen people get a $200 alarm and never heard from them again and have seen people put over $1000 in an alarm and saw them back in the shop with nothing left but all their wires in a month. If a good theif wants it they most likely will find a way to get it. So spending alot won't protect everything for sure. I could how ever help you out and install an alarm for you if you ever wanted to come down this way. I have extra glass sensors and sirens(non battery though) that i could put in there for you also to save you some money on those things. When I moved to TX I brought all my tools with me just in case so if you would like just pm me and we can talk about it.

I have the Compustar 2 way and it is great. Put it this way, it they want your car they will be able to get it...unless the car pages you....after all it's a theft DETERENT. With the two way, you will have the peace of mind to know that if someone ***** with your ride, you can make a citizen's arrest with your Louisville Slugger!! Spend the money and get two-way with remote start, which also acts as an additional security measure.
