Car Alarm Systems

This may seem like a dumb question, but i've never installed a car alarm system before. I have an 03 p5 and i was wondering if i have to cut the wires to install the alarm system or just splice into them? Any advice would help.

Your alarm system should have a manual that you can check. Which system are you planning on getting? I have never done one either but I venture to guess that you would mostly tap into and not cut.

If you get the OEM alarm, its plug & play. only cutting involved is drilling a hole for the LED, which is way simple. I installed this myself a month ago very easily.

not sure about an aftermarket alarm....

If you plan to install an alarm with a remote starter and if
the system has a starter kill or anti grind, the only wire
that you have to CUT is the starter wire. The rest are all
tap.

It seems that you don't have any experience in
installing so I suggest you get a professional to install
this for you.

or get the OEM alarm. step by step instructions with pics are included. Easier than a stereo install.

I like doing the work on my car that way i can say that i did it. I figured out how to put most of it in except for the wire that the instructions say i have to connect to the start wire. I found the wire color codes on another thread but it never said what color wire is the start wire. any ideas?

The start wire is a 12 gauge wire, color black/blue stripe.
It is located on the ignition cylinder harness.

It should show 12-13V only on start position when you test it.

Good luck
