Can't wait to drive my Mazda5 again!!!

I bought my 2008 GT in late January. I was really enjoying the ride and getting used to all of its idiocyncracies. Then on 3/2 I had a motorcycle accident. Not my fault. Was lucky in that my gear saved my life. But my right foot was messed up really good.

My ankle was broken (open fracture), my heel bone was crushed and my heel was de-gloved. It's been a little over 10 weeks. I have gotten all the pins and screws out and my heel bone is mending well. But due to the de-gloving some of the heel tissue died. They had to remove it and I am in therapy that is supposed to help me grow the tissue back.

Anyway, it will probably be about 6-8 more weeks before I can even think about driving again if things go well. Longer yet if they do not. The poor 5 hasn't been washed since the accident. Thank goodness I put 3 coats of Zaino on it before the accident.

I have to be driven everywhere. My dad (who is 80) has been driving me to all my therapy etc. and we have been using the 5 the whole time. He loves it. In fact he says he might look to trade in his 2007 Civic for one. Before I got the 5 in January, I had an Infinti G35 Coupe. I sure am glad I traded. We have been carrying around my walker and wheelchair and still have room for groceries etc. The only complaint I have, since my foot is messed up, is the lack of foot room in the passenger front seat...

My 5 now has 1200 miles, only 500 of which were driven by me. I can't wait to get behind the wheel again!!

Sorry to hear that, but good to know you are recovering allright (bike)

It still kind of surprises me that a people mover like the Mazda5 can be so much fun to drive, I also enjoy driving them a lot. People who have not driven one don't think is a big deal, but the ones who have driven it always have good feedback :D

Glad to hear you are recovering ok. It's a testament to proper gear that you didn't get hurt worse. I do find it interesting to see the broad appeal of the 5. We moved up to it as a family vehicle. I see you moved from an Infinity. Nice to know it's not just an econocar!

I do have to admit that the 5 is very handy for folks of all ages. My 93 yr old Grandma like riding in the middle and likes the ease open/close doors. Unfortunately, my 3 yr old nephew also finds the doors easy to open (he just needs to impulse control to avoid slamming them open to the stops! Almost everyone appreciates not having to bend much to get in and out. I imagine that was very helpful for you!

Anyway. Glad to hear you are ok!
