can you paint carbon fibre?

i've always assumed you could, but haven't been sure myself, to be honest. Call a body shop...

from evry thing that i have heard you can, treat it like any other auto body and sand and prime first but i am told it works fine

Why would you want to paint it. I thought the goal was to have as many diffrent body pieces as many diffrent colors as possible.:D

You can paint FC like any fiberglass parts. Same method: sanding, priming, sanding, base coat color, clear coat finish, that's it!

Just make sure that you get a good quality CF hood. If you have one that looks wavy (the resin) your paint will look that way. DGmotorsports hoods are nearly flawless and would be a good one to paint. But yes you can paint them with not problem.

paint parts of it is the point i think.... like on the wings west Mp3 the sides of the hood are color matched. thats the way ill paint my hood too if i ever get one

Yeah I'm trying to think up a cool look to my CF front lip when I get it. I wanna paint it but I wanna leave some CF showing.

I shot a Truck that had a DOPE A$$ CF hood that was partially painted with a gold leaf pin stripe! BTW the color is Lamborghini Baby Blue

Now that I look back at this shoot I wish I would have taken a detail shot of the hood! :'(

The baby blue looks ghetto...lol

Oh I like the billet grill on a ford truck....that's about as original as altezzas on hondas....

Sorry, just not my style...
(Be different, just like everyone else)

i thought the whole point of getting carbon fiber was to save weight why do you wan't to weigh it down with paint

Weight won't be so different...

Since anyway, 99.9% of carbon fiber accessories sold in the U.S.A. are "clear coated" with resin or similar products, and from what I've seen, these coatings are similar to paint in thickness, so if you paint your C.F. hood partially or totally, it will very probably weight as much as without any paint but the original clear resin coating.

Later,
FEDE.:p
