Can they do this?

A friend and I were traveling down a one lane road, with 5 cars in front of me, including a mini Cooper-S just in front of me; when I noticed an officer on the side of the raod about a block up. I maintained my speed (40), while the cooper-S sped forward about 1 car length; after passing the officer, he got behind me, we merged onto a two lane road, he came along side of me, told me to pull over, and went after the mini cooper. once pulled over, he gave the mini cooper a ticket, then came to me, and stated to me that he clocked the mini cooper at 52 MPH, but did not get me on radar. "And since the mini cooper was doing 52 MPH, and you were behind him, you must have been doing 52 MPH as well."

On the way home, I gave a car infront of me three car lengths, then proceeded to step on the gas from 40 MPH to 52 MPH, and only closed one car length! Which is exactly what the mini cooper had done infront of me...

So if an opinion is all that they need, then why do they even have a radar gun?!? They should just randomly pull people over!

He clearly didn't clock you. If he honestly was dumb enough to admit that You can fight that in court.

Fight it, that ticket will NOT hold up in court. I've even gotten a radar ticket thrown out, you just need to know how the system works.

A lot of cops write tickets because they know the majority of people will just pay the fine without questioning it.

I didn't see him post anything about getting a ticket...did I miss something?
Matt

s*** the cops not even going to show in the court house... u are the winner hands down :D

on the ticket there is a box that they can mark called "pacing" witch it shounds like he is trying to use. i think that if you try to fight it it will be your word against his.

pacing tickets suck ass..they can go either way..definetly fight it..you'll probably win..i have won 2 in the past.

That sucks, I thought pacing was when the cop followed you and used his speedo to determine your speed. . .

he wasn't pacing, and this cop was the same one that gave me my last ticket.
on my last ticket he wrote me for a injen intake catch can(for coolant)and one for my exhaust .
the intake has a C.A.R.B number, there is no law on my catch can,and I had just won a case for my exhaust a month prier. It measures 92 DB,the limit is 95DB.

before that case the officer had never lost a case.

by the way ghost buster I but it here cause more people see it before it gets moved.(notcool)

See, there's the stickiness of the situation. The cop does not like you because he lost a case to you, and is now letting his personal feelings get into the way of doing his job fairly. If you send a complaint to his superiors (which would be the 'right' thing to do), this may just piss him off more, and cause you to get pulled over/ticketed for more bulls*** in the future.

yeah but the cop has to be pacing you not a guess of speed by watching two cars on the road and clocking one of them. If. I hate when cops do s*** like that. If he did get a ticket then he will wipe the floor with that cop.

you should have refused to sign the ticket and go to court. here in louisiana they have to clock you by radar and if you request to see the radar, they have to show you. then to really get them..ask the last time the radar was calabrated then ask to see his radar certification, they have to have one.

yea, in texas you go to jail if you don't sign. signing here is not an admission of guilt, rather you'll either pay the fine or go to your court date.

no sign equals jail time! Im a poet!!!!!!

Still no answer on if you got a ticket or not. If you did this is a win for you. go to court. If you loose apeal it and go again. Appeals court is for drug cases, child support, and theft, and more. they give a rats ass about your speeding ticket and you will most likely get off clean the second time. especially if you have a decent record.

I did this and won!
