can I replace just the tail light cover?

The cover of one of our tail lights is cracked, a hole about the size of a golf ball (we couldn't find the offending golfball...)

I see the entire tail assembly for purchase for $200 - is it possible to purchase and replace only the large plastic cover?

Doubtful, you are probably best to check local salvage yards or car-part.com
