Can i CUT my SHIFTER?????

Hi ,
i just buy myself a new momo shift knob crystal blue and my question is ....Can i cut the shifter?? i mean the thing that comes up , i would like to have a shorter shifter..i feel like cutting it like 2" ?
would this damage the gears or something if it is shorter????
help me please ;)

thanks

I think you should reconsider this: Just lopping off the top of the shifter handle doesn't make a short shifter. What you'll get is increased shift effort, resulting in more missed shifts, grinds, and a really sore arm.By shortening the handle, you move the point of pressure closer to the fulcrum, while the end you're moving stays the same. Even some shift kits don't do any better. The good ones actually change the position of the fulcrum relative to the handle and linkage ends (among other things), so as to reduce the amount of effort necessary to shift, and also reduce the DISTANCE that the handle has to move. The main point is this: shorter handle doesn't equal faster shifts. Read some boards and find out what's available aftermarket and how people like them. Hope this helps.
The MP3 has the best shifter in the protege family. The protege5 actually uses the same shifter, only for some reason, Mazda stuck an extra 3 inches of length on to it. Those extensions can be removed to end up with the same shifter in the MP3.

thanks man,
i dont want to cut it to shift faster , i just want to cut it because with my momo shift knob the shifter is longer that before , which make shifting really easy. It's for the look , iwant it to be short.
but without , at long term , "breaking anything".
:D
