can i clean the o2 sensors with brake cleaner? i picked some up to clean the EGR and dont feel like buying another product, is it sensor safe?

I wouldn't try to clean them if I were you - you might contaminate them. If you think they're causing a problem (really this should only be a concern with the first one), replace it.

Not sure how you would clean something that operates at 400 degrees with a sensitive coating that reads oxygen. Would probably mess it up, or not but definitely wouldn't help.

well the second one is completely covered in carbon, because i have an oil leak. and i got a brake cleaner that claims to leave no residue and i recently got cel for o2 sensor

I would use electronics cleaner if anything.

Just spray/soak it really well and don't wipe it off, let it air dry.

I've cleaned my 2nd one with both the CRC EC and brake cleaner several times to remove the build up when I get the P0421. Now I don't bother as it goes off within 30 miles or less of coming on and only happens every 3 thousand miles or so. Since it serves no purpose on my set up, I have no intent on replacing it until it is completely shot and the CEL illuminates constantly.

No. That won't cut carbon (in fact it contains some oil IIRC).

Just replace it.(eekdance)
