I don't know guys, but my buddy just traded in his 97 Nissan 200SX Se 4spd-automatic and hated getting beat by all of us. So he suprised me when the next day came and he went to selma auto mall. He left a message on my cellphone when i got off work and he thought he could take me now, but didn't leave what he had got, just told me to meet him at taco bell at 11:00 pm. So i met him there and freakinn...... had a brand new 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R SpecV. He took me out for a cruise and i tell you man this babe had balls. this babe has a sweet 2.5 VTC motor, it pulls all the way to 6100rpms redline. He couldn't wait till this past saturday cause he wanted revenge against my bro's 2000 Civic SI, and 2000 Civic EX, and 89 Hatchback Crx civic SI. But only one of them went out it was the 2000 Civic Si. We all drove up to mooney's in visalia to meet up and hang out as there were a couple of races first was the 2000 civic SI with Aem cai and Msd wires vs. Jetta VR6 with intake, exhaust, and chip but the jetta won. Next race it was the SpecV vs. PreludeSH with intake, and exhaust. SpecV won after 2nd gear. Then the SpecV raced the jetta VR6 but the jetta won by 1 1/2 car lenghs twice against my friend so i drove his SpecV cause he still is a rookie but i raced him to 3rd gear he said third was his 1/4mile so i already had the jump this thing is torquey than a mother F%$*(^. beat him by half a car lengh. He wanted to race again so we ran um again and still had the lead in 2nd gear untill i accidently through it into 5th instead of third. Then we parked to the sides for awhile and just left the engine running with the heater full blast too let the car rest for awhile. Main event was the revenge part the 2000 Civic SI vs. SpecV i drove cause rookie was still learning anyways i had him by a grip untill i through it into 5th again. Didn't get to get a full race, But we all just went back crusing untill we saw another Si souped up trying to toy with my bro's Civic SI but unfortunately i had to rum um against this babe. It was a tricked out Si. First i let my bro race him up and down the country like ten times cause my bro beat him 3times in a row and this guy was getting pist so they did an even race one on one, i guess they kept going back and forth one would beat one, one after another. So i just couldn't wait to race this guy in the SpecV. He counted to three 1,2, he was gone and said three so i tried to keep up untill we were coming to a turn he got me by a door. So i told him let's run'em again as i told his buddy to flag us but he said his 3rd gear was 1/4mile so i said whatever. Off we go already not into 2ndgear he allready turns his flashers on as 2nd came i got a jump by a door and third i was 1car lengh ahead and just turn my flashers on and slowed down went back ask his friends if he said third gear was 1/4mile they said yeah and that he won't leave untill he wins cause his car is modified. As the SI came back he said he mess up and wanted to run again. Off we go again this time he made 2nd gear i heard it i had a could jump on him once 2nd came i was already 2 car lenghs ahead of him and he gave up. I couldn't believe that i beat him after what he told me he had. AEM Cai, Aem cam gears, Aem pulleys, Vtec controller, Dc-sport Headers, Greddy exhaust. That's why i notice him shaking his head when we were running them and the funny thing that night was he couldn't believe that my bro's Si was stock except for the AEM cai and MSD wires cause my bro beat him 3times two. And the only thing that's been done to the SpecV is a k&n panel flat filter than he had in his 200SX Se he took out and put that in his SpecV and nos octane booster he added that night. My bro's girlfiend told that guy it's not how you stand by your car it's how you race your car. Me and everybody else standing there even that guy's friends were just rolling when she said that.:D

Well, seeing as how the SpecV puts down "stock" to the wheels what a SI with all the bolt ons puts down to the wheels. I would assume that a near compitent driver could beat an SI in a stock Spec V. Now if you were to throw an AEM intake on a SpecV you'd definately be able to beat a 2000 SI. I found a dyno of one on a Spec V message board and posted the results in the Off Topic Forum...Click Me. Those are some pretty impressive numbers from a simple intake install.

Love the 7Hp gain and 11lf.bs of torque. But i thought to myself that i beat a souped up civic Si and that this 2.5VTC has got some ba**S and that the VTC kicks in at 5000rpms all the way to redline 6100rpms and you can hear the VTC, just imagine what a AEM or Injen cai will sound like and power will do after that dyno you just posted. I just don't believe this guy has all these mods and i sitll whooped on him.

I guess we all have different opinions on this, but I'm not quite sure that beating the hell out of the Spec V right after he bought it was such a good idea. I know engines aren't made like they used to be, but there is (in my opinion) still a break-in period on BRAND NEW cars. He COULD (notice I did not say WILL. I'm not trying to move this into flame wars.) have problems down the road. Nothing a warranty won't cover, but it's still annoying to have to do. What do you people think.

Hey man, I told him it was a brand new car and he shouldn't be pushing it all the time untill the car is broken in. It's his car and his choice if he want's to be driving it hard all the time. As of the other night he took it out, it had 700miles on it already. One week from this past Monday 4/8/02. I think all he wanted was just revenge like i said.:) but Man that was one Torquey Mother FU*&%$. I just can't believe i smoke that Si with all the mods he listed.

2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R SpecV 2.5L 16-VALVE DOHC VTC

Well, i would take a Civic over a Sentra anyday. Just not that new Civic Si they have on the markert now. Question: u said that your man was a rookie but what are u considered if your accidently throwing the shifter into 5 instead of 3rd while racing?:o :p

Just think how quick the new protege will be.....Since it will put out 170 with a turbo......I assume it will do high 6 to low 7 0-60.....Or maybe i am way off.....Someone with any idea let me know....APEX you always have good info maybe yu can tell me...........

Would be quicker if they didn't have all the sound dampener, big sub system, and heavy wheels. Hopefully the wheels aren't as heavy as the MP3s... or just put a custom 15" wheel on them. The weight measured (posted on another thread around here) for the MP3 is just waaay too heavy. Looks nice none the less. :D

From what I'm thinking buy looking at the 00 an 01' Civic Si 0-60 and that car has 10 less HP. I'd think the MS Protege should do the 0-60 in about 7.4-7.8 seconds, depending on how good the tires on the MS are and how good the clutch is. Assuming that the 170hp rating is at the fly and not to the wheels, the MS could put down anywhere from 141-150 to the wheels once you subtract the average FWD drivetrain loss (12-18%). Remember guys, I'm not saying these numbers are final, nor am I certain if the 170 will fly or wheel hp numbers. Only time will tell what exactly the numbers will be. :( I hate waiting. This is just my .02 cents, please don't take it to heart as these are just my thoughts.

Korey chaos

have you ever driven the New Sentra SpecV? well the shifting is way differnet from the MP3 and a Si. "Don't forget though this is a 6-speed transmission. the gears are kinda of close to each other. As for my friend being a rookie, no offense or anything but (Can't you read). He just traded in his 1997 Nissan 200SX Se 4-SPEED AUTOMATIC. It's taking time for him to get use to driving stick. He's kinda got the hang of it, but when he punches the car and when 5500rpms or redline comes he kinda wait to shift the gear or grinds the gear.

I was concerning about the break-in thing when I was half way on the post too. But since he is tritonheat1's friend, it is understandable.
Now I don't know how's the Sentra Spec-V do. But I did drive a Civic SI, it is definitely not the fastest, but it is fast. Especially with those mods you have mentioned.
Now the 6spd makes the gear close together???? Do you mean the gear RATIO??? hahaaa~ :p
Anyway, I got to put one thumb up to your friend. It took two weeks to learn standard and 3 months to drive properly. Maybe I am stupid, but your friend must be a natural born racer.

Actually, the Spec V's wheels are heavier than the MP3's. They tip the scales at 24lbs a piece. The MP3's are 23lbs. So imagine what lighter wheels would do for the Spec V off the launch. You'd definately be using the LSD to the fullest.;)

Speaking of Civics, anybody see the Type S Civic write up in the latest SCC? Man, if that car ever makes it to the states I'll be the first in line. Honda says it never will though. They seem to know they'd never be able to sell another RSX if they did.

you see the New 2003 Mazda Mazdaspeed Protege. I would not buy a civic over a Sentra, unless they were giving me a heck of a deal and it only would be the Si civic 2. But i'd rather take the Mazdaspeed Protege.

I probably wouldn't take the Civic Si (latest gen), but that Civic Type-R they have overseas looks like another story. :D

Dunno, I have to say that a body kit does wonder for an originally ugly 2002 Civic Si overall appearance. That Type-R looks sharp from the outside compared to the dull looking new Civic Si we have here. Our version reminds me of a pooper scooper with its sharp and bent nose up front with the rear-end hatch as the handle. :D

Is the new Civic Type-r the new 2002 Civic Si or, is it different with a different body style, cause the New civic Si is F-ugly." I would only take the 2000 Civic Si only 2".

The new CTR has the same motor and Tranny as the RSX Type-S. 200hp 6 Speed. The CTR, according to SCC, will walk all over the RSX Type-S. With knowing that, you probably won't see Honda release the CTR stateside as it would affect the sales of the RSX. I think if they smartened up a bit, they would at least release the CTR and only import about 1000-1500 or so units.

So it, sounds like the CTR will walk all over the Mazdaspeed Protege?????? knowing that they already they did 0-60less than 7secs as of now.????. Even if the CTR beats the Mazdaspeed in the 0-60mph mark i still wouldn't but that over the Mazdaspeed protege.

Wh&$%#@!*&

What the heck does a 93 Sentra SE-R have in it. Raced, one for one crew member and he got me by half a car lengh 1/4mile. But he had Cold air intake can't remember what brand probably Aem and aslo a cat-back exhaust with a apexi N1muffler. I raced him in my bro's Spec-V. I couldn't believe it, everybody thought he was running turbo or nos. That damm SR20Det is pretty damm quick also, it's light. But i messed up, cause when i launched i hit 6100rpms 3times then shifted to 2nd cause i thought the powerband kicked in but i was just using mostly torque. I know for a fact that i coulda beat him.

first race:2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT-V6 6-spd
mods: autozone or pepboys air filter intake (APC) i won this race by 1 1/2 car lenghs.

second race: 1993 Nissan Sentra SE-R 5-spd
mods: cold air intake, cat-back exhaust with a Apexi N1 muffler, lost by half car lengh:mad:

? First you say your buddy has the Spec V and wants revenge on your brother's SI, now your brother has the Spec V? Who has it?

And you say the 93 SE-R had a SR20DET?? That's hardly stock. The stock SR20DE in the SE-R was naturally aspirated with 140hp, found in the SE-R and the Infiniti G20 and some other cars, while the SR20DET, with 200+hp, was the turbo engine out of, hmm, I can't remember which FWD Nissan (Bluebird or something?) in Japan, the 180sx/Silvias, and, I THINK, the Pulsar GTi-R.

Now, I don't know much about Tiburons, but the new V-6 Tiburon damn fast. Even Sport Compact Car gave it props and put it as one of the top 8 cars (the other honoured cars included the likes of WRX, Celica GTS, ITR, etc.). So damn, I don't think you smoked that thing. Unless the guy really sucks. Or it's just the 4-cyl one. Acording to the Sport Compact Cars website, the Tiburon does the 1/4mi in 15.6s while the Spec V does it in 15.4, hardly a big difference.
