Can a 2010/2011 smartkey be programmed to work on a 08 gt?

Newbie here to the board. Just bought a 08 GT and it is in like new condition, but the dealer only had one smartcard (the dealer likely lost the other card).

One of my sources was able to get me a new style smart key for the 2010/2011 CX-9 GT. The aux key has already been cut, so I figured I can just buy a new aux key for it and have the dealer program the new smart fob. When I asked the service dept, they looked like I had two heads, and then told me that the pre-2010 GT's used an advanced smartcard system, but that the new GT's fob is not actually a "smart" system, and that programming would not be possible. Now, obviously they have no idea what they are talking about because the current GT out there uses a smart fob, and still has the ignition cover that you have to turn to start the car. Does anyone know if you can program the new fob's to work with the pre-2010 model? If not, is anyone interested in buying a 10/11 fob so i can buy another older style fob?

Ask another dealer.
Since you only have 1 smartcard, you need dealer to do the programming, no matter what.

I know that the dealer has to do the programming, but I'm trying to figure out if the new fob's can be programmed by the dealer for the pre 10' model.

I would also be interested to know about this... I have an 08 Grand Touring, and I *hate* the credit card type key. I would love to replace both my remotes with the newer style, if for nothing else to keep the valet key from falling out. I have dropped it many times and went searching out in parking lots to find it, and my wife has lost hers entirely.

Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated!
