Calling Audiogeeks - need advise

mp3 and elise
I need to upgrade the audio in my car asap. Catch is this isn't a protege and not even a mazda - it's my elise. The stock Blaupunkt is absolute junk and I know nothing about car audio. So please help me piece together a decent system. The car has four 5 inch speakers and a crappy head unit all from blaupunkt.

Now, I am not after slamming bass so I can shake the car next to me but I do want to actually hear the music before the speakers get overdriven. I have a proaudio background and listen to music exclusively through studio monitors (bi-amped dual crossover goodies - Mackie stuff). I am not really sure if that kind of thing exist for mobile audio but hopefully I can get close.

Also, no trunk subs please - I already have no trunk space. A three inch encloser is about all I can handle.

Come audio guys, I know there are some very knowledgeable people on this board.

Cheers

we did several for a dealer a few years ago.
Every one had about the same thing:
4 Channel amplifier
New head unit
1 nice sets of components
1 shallow subwoofer in the passanger foot well. Typicly a 10"

Other then thats its really just picking your poison on the brand.
I like my Pioneer head unit which was under $200.

I really dont see the point of doing 4 speakers in that little car

Whats the budget?

Price is unlimited. Not 10K unlimited, but I am extremely passionate about tone so I really don't care how much it costs. I just don't know the brand hierarchy for car audio. What would you recommend for a balanced sound throughout the frequency band? I don't want overwhelming bass or scooped mids etc.

I've seen that jvc makes that foot well sub encloser but what kind of sub would be extremely tight that fits?

Also, what are total costs associated with what you mentioned above 1sty? Including install.

I would do the following.

Alpine PDX 4.150, 4 channel 150x2+300x1: http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=PDX-4.150
This amp is timy for the power. 10-1/8" x 7-9/16" x 2-7/16

Polk Audio SR5250: http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/sr5250/
I have yet to hear a speaker I like better. I have the 6.5" version in my truck and I love them more every day. I woul dlike more power on them though.

Two ways to go on the sub. I would either do the Jl audio 10W1v2 if you want to keep it simple to install. JL makes a stealth box for it:

Or you could go the messy but maybe higher output route and do a Rockford Fosgate P3SD210: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/prod...ly_id=55&item_id=108282&locale=en_US&p_status=

Head untis have alot to pack into themselves these days but most of the features have nothing to do with SQ. I like the eclipse sound but hate their appearence. Best Ic an suggest is look at Eclipse, Pioneer, or or Alpine. I will admit that I am not much of an alpine fan any more.

I have had a fance for this Pioneer, though I can not afford it: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069882_291159496,00.html

Last up would be wiring and installtion. I am not sure what it will take to put those components into the doors, I guess that is up to you and how crazy you want to get with your installtions.
My best guess puts all equipment, wiring, accessories, and labor at about $3K

everything 1sty said sounds good... I have a thing for alpine though... there type r series is amazing and every head unit from the cheapest to the upper end has been amazing... :)
