Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

even reworked turbo form pg smokes sharkdriver told me that, so it has to be oil used heavier weight like bova80 said
that about oil smoke would be okay with a different piston and ring setup but I am alittle leery about a new turbo allowing oil into the combustion chamber and burning. But I am by far no expert.

i'll be putting 5w40 amsoil euro spec in my car tomorrow. i know about 5 others on another message board that run it and had smoking before and then after changing the smoking went away. in some cases it took a few days to stop but it has stopped. and as a 5 weight cold it is good for the colder areas while staying thick when warm.

Mine would smoke every once in awhile after i did my catless TBE. It didnt really bother though cause ive had other turbo cars do the same thing randomly. But now its started doing it every day almost constantly a cloud of burning oil smoke behind my car when i come to a stop. Something is definitely ****** up, im dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow. Has anyone else had this happen? was it the turbo seals or what? Car still runs great though...WTF?

happened to me. i returned to stock and it stopped or was covered up with the 2 cats . so it was pointless to take to dealer beacuse all they would say is failure to replicate conditions.

Yeah I'm gonna hold off on my dp install until I see that the thicker oil is the ticket. If it isn't I'm staying away from the dp because I have to go through inspection and they don't inspect smoking cars. :(.

I come to realize that my situation with the smoking out of my tail pipe was due to the two gaskets on the oil pipe connecting to the bottom of the turbo and not the turbo itself. I have pics showing oil seeping through the oil pipe gaskets. I changed the gaskets which cost ($10.00 total) and so far no more smoke at idle. I also put on a high flow cat to eliminate any exhaust smoke as well. I was running dp catless exhaust before.

well i'm running 5w40 oil now so when i get the chance to install my downpipe i'll let you know the results of whether it smokes or not.

Thanks for helping out. And Kendall that is the first I have heard about that and your experience is very interesting to me.

No problem. Just trying to help out with any information. I know how it feels to have an issue and not even know what it is/causing it. Let me know how it goes with you guys.

well i posted a little while ago about my 07 ms3 smoking after i put tbe on it. i brought my car to mazda of lodi... they first told me my oxygen sensor was broken and they fixed it and said they could not duplicate the smoking problem ( yeah right ) the next day car continued to smoke so i brought it back and they setup a 3rd appointment for me to go in because they said the turbo cannot b replaced without a mazda rep looking at it first....so i waited for 2 more weeks..went back wen the rep was there and they replaced my turbo..and i no longer have any smoking out of my exhaust...

My dealer verified the smoking at idle issue on Tuesday and ordered a new turbo the same day. I'm supposed to get the sled back tomorrow. Now I get to wonder if the new turbo will go belly-up in another 26K; when the heap is out of warranty...

no i took it off....all i had on my car wen i brought it in was a cai...didnt want to chance them voiding my warranty

Well I've got 22,700 miles on my 2007 MS3 and noticed that it does smoke when I push on it hard and not up to 2300 rpm. And it is blue smoke, not black or white, this car was made in May 07, anybody know what turbo was in it? I have the 100,000 mile warranty on this car, cause the turbo is only covered for 30,000 miles...

Looks like I've got the smoking turbo as well. However, I have no performance mods other than a K&N air filter. I noticed it yesterday and today. When I leave my house in the morning to go to work, I encounter stopped traffic after a few miles. Sitting at idle, it begins to produce white smoke, and when I move forward, a larger puff of it comes out. Once I'm going, I don't notice it anymore, but then when I come to a stop again, it begins after a short time. I've got 27K on mine, and I use only 5W-30 synthetic.

no smoking turbo but still the stock exhaust - been reading this thread, and i have a few questions:

1) any difference between years of cars? CX-7, ms3, and ms6 all do it, but all years as well?

2) i was under the impression that BLUE smoke indicated oil, while WHITE smoke indicated coolant/water - does everyone with this issue experience blue smoke, because i thought i read of white smoke as well?

3) when mazda replaces the turbo, is the new one the exact same as the old one?

4) generally speaking, turbine seal failures indicate need for replacement, but, since a smoking KO4 almost seems normal for the MS3, will running with a smoker run the risk of further issues or just be annoying?

5) exhaust generally either exposes a smoker or possibly creates a smoker - what about a tubular exhaust manifold?
