Calling all automatic drivers.....

Hey all,

I'm wanting to do a drain and fill on my 54K auto trans. Its got the sport shift (manual) gates, I think 2003 was the only year. I want to also add a quart of Lucas Trans Fix as I have used it before with great results. Hoping to tighten and speed up the manual shift response and just be pro-active about my auto tranny...never been a strong point for Mazda. Has anyone done this job? How much fluid were you able to drain out of it? Has anyone used Lucas in a sportshift auto?

I don't have the sport shift, but I can only drain between 2-3 quarts of fluid from
my 2002 P5 automatic. I did three changes over several days to get most of the old
fluid out.

No experience with Lucas trans fix. I have never used an additive in any automatic
transmission.

Had mine flushed with the machine at 35k and added AMSOIL synthetic atf. At 87k now and fixing to do the manual flush method and change strainer. Have atf cooler but have not used additives.

I am leary of any type of pressurized "flush"...heard too many stories + there isn't a single manufacturer that recommends this service. In fact, some of them specify NOT to have this type of trans service and even void factory warranty coverage for issues resulting from these services. From what I can tell, its only the people who sell it who seem to think its a good idea.

That's why I will be doing it myself this time draining the few quarts when the pan is off to replace strainer then run car to push out a quart or so fill with same amt of fresh and repeat that enough times to end up with mostly fresh 9 quarts of new fluid in the tranny.

Had my tranny drained, refilled and strainer changed at 65K. I felt no difference, except feeling better about the state of my P5.

t\There was a post on this a while back. The post atated that you dain the three or so qts out of pan. Put in the same amout that you drain. Remove return hose from trans coming from radiator. This project will take two people. You the start the car and run ONE qt. out and add a qt. By the time you get to the 10th qt., it should be coming out clear. It took me ten qts at 65000 miles. I am due to for another change.
