California & No Front Plates...

What exactly is the deal with front licencse plates in California? I don't want to drill holes in the front of my MSP.

DMV's website says this:
"5200. When two license plates are issued by the department for a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear. When one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle, it shall be attached to the rear thereof."

But that doesn't rule out placing it on the front dash, anyone here know if that's okay? Anyone here had problems from having no front plate?

Also, is there a product for windshields like wax to the paint? The windshield in my last car got tons of little spec size chips, and I've just noticed the first ones popping up on my MSP. No big deal, and they're VERY small, but I'd rather not get them.

DEXTER !!! move this thread ! har har har...

anyway, it's illegal not to have the front plate on the front. u put it in the window, it's illegal. has to be in the front. it says it has to be attached. r u gonna attach it to ur front window or ur dashboard ?

i have mine in my window and a cop asked why it is there and i said i am waiting for dealershipe to get bracket even though i have 1
dumb ass cop!!

Lucky bastards!!!

I got pulled over cause I had a little licence cover in the back...

Cops in Bay Area give you s*** for everything that looks too nice for them...

i got my share of fixing tickets for having a licence plate behind the windshield.....last time i got it the cop told me it's mandatory because if you run a red light ( one of those stupid things with photo flash, that we have a lot in LA) the windshield will reflect the flash and your licence plate will not be visible on the pic, so they can not issue you a ticket.....so i keep mine on the dash....still....

since its still illegal to have it on the dash... i'd take my chance and put my license plate in the house... got caught twice w/ tints but cop didnt bother going to the front of the car to check out if i had my license plate... so they didnt write me a correction ticket :P

I was pulled over and given a fix it ticket for no front plate. I got the ticket signed off, and sent it into the court. Weeks later I recieved a notice that says I did not appear in court. I didnt read the ticket, and have had a fix it ticket before, so I had no idea I had to appear in court. I still don't know why I had to. The notice said because I had failed to appear in court, my license had been suspended, and I had to pay a $360 fine. Can you believe a $360 for a fix it ticket?! oy!

Steph, that sux, he same thing happend to me from a seat belt tickett like four years ago. I never knew it till one day my insurance company dropped my coverage and said they do not cover people with a suspended license. Kinda sux.. My rates went up like 25%. Really a bummer. I did the same thing though. I just sent in the money and thought it was good. Should have read the fine print I guess..... Good luck fighting it. They are mean...

I was DD'ing my drunk ass frinds around on New Years. My friend in the back sees these chicks walking down the street and practically jumps out of the rear window to whistle and yell and basically make an ass out of himself, all while right in front of a cop. He pulled me over for no front plate, but it was really to check if I was drunk. Luckily i hadnt touched a drop. He gave me the "follow my finger" test, realized I wasn't drunk, and sent me on my merry way. He was really trolling for DUI's and could care less about my plate, but was a valid reason to pull me over...

Instead of drilling into your bumper what about "zip tie" it to your lower front grille?

I love Arizona by the way. No front plates, no emissions and my limo tint is legal.

Sorry guys had to rub it in. I'll have to behave in April cause I'm coming to Southern Cali for the Protegefest 2004.

See y'all there.
