CAL Emmissions equipment -HP?

I noticed the Mazda 3i with the PZEV emssions equipment has 144hp vs 148hp without it. The 3s emissions equipment is label CAL. Is this the same and does it reduce the 160 HP to 156hp on the S model. Searching dealer inventory to make purchase and found one with option which has CAL(NY). Concern about loss of HP since my state does not require this(NJ).

Bah, you can make up 4hp with an intake or stickier tires. It's not super noticable. Now if you were losing 20 hp out of 160, then I'd be considered. Besides you can know that you're doing good by helping the environment. :)

160 hp all the way!

as far as i understand, and have read is that the lower horsepower rating is only on the 2.0 not the 2.3 (evil)

CAL equip

Thanks for the replies. What I heard from the dealer is that it only reduces HP on the PZEV emissions control. The Mazda brochure does not show PZEV for the 2.3 version. Anyone knows where this equipment is installed. Is it on the muffler/exhaust? Cause if it is it can be replaced.

Anyways I placed a deposit for a Titanium Grey Sedan with everthing except NAV and Zeon package. It was the only one available by the end of this month with the options I wanted. Did not want to wait 10 weeks for order so I setted for one with CAL emissions.

the PZEV is available on the 2.0 not the 2.3, but there is ULEV emissions eqipment on the 2.3 if it says CAL Emissions. PZEV has more effect on performace than ULEV. Go to www.mazda3.com and click on specifications and somewhere on there is a PDF file with all the specs on all model types, it says something about the emissions equipment in one of the sections on that pdf.
