Supposedly the cai affects torque, but these cars have so much torque I wouldn't worry about the decrease in torque. The short ram will suck in warmer air thus not increasing the hp as much as the cai, the differance will be minimal though. The cai also runs the risk of inhaling water but you would have to submerge the filter or go through a automatic car wash and get the under carriage wash. In short the cai gives you more hp but less torque than the short ram. I would go with the cai, its what I installed on my wifes mp5.

The cold air intake systems will net more power as you do more modifications to your engine. Short ram is better if you were running a turbo setup to avoid the bends.
We have tested many different intakes and our current cold air setup works best. Coupled with the headers, it made a nice addition to the existing power!

This is a photo just as we finished doing the custom headers and cold air setup. We didn't want to go with Injen, they don't use a K&N element(which I personall prefer) and their bends didn't look to flow as well, so we went custom as usual.

I would suggest getting the SRI for the simple fact that our engines are not powerful enough to create enough pull to make the gains of the CAI useful. the CAI does a nice job getting "some" cold air to the engine but by the time that it passes through all of the extra pipe (which is being heated by the engine bay) the differences are minimal. if you are truly concerned about the cold air, use the SRI vs. CAI savings and consider getting the Corksport air dam that directs the flow from the lower grill...
