CAI opinion?

I've searched the forum and I haven't found anything with definitive opinions from users about what way to go on my situation...

I need to replace my air box with a CAI cause it broke.

Very simple.

I just want something cheap that will work, i'm not into performance mods and all of that, my car is completely stock.

Should I just get that inexpensive Vibrant one, or is it going to give me problems, and I should go with an Injen or AEM? Does anyone have any personal experience with the Vibrant CAI?

Never used the Vibrant intake since I have the Injen CAI. I would recommend the Injen CAI mainly because it comes with all the brackets needed to relocate the reservoir and that other little piece which attaches to the stock intake piping.

There are no real noticeable HP gains with any of the CAI intakes so it all depends on how much you want to spend and the filter you use.

I used an ebay cai on my p5 for the almost 5 years I had it. no problems whatsoever. and cheap too. if you go that route I'd suggest a K&N filter tho...

which part did it broke? if the stock plastic pipe is still fine....you can connect a K&N flow filter to the stock pipe....it works too~!

You can get the CAI K&N setup for 224.99 online with free shipping. I think K&N has all the mounting hardware as well (I hope).

The option for a Injen Style intake for $69+ shipping from X3 racing. It takes some work to find it because they do not have it listed on Ebay. Most of the intakes on Ebay move the MAF closer and is a short ram. I got mine 2.5 years ago and has been flawless. I also installed a AEM bypass just to be safe because of another protege that had a CAI and hydro-locked his engine. One of the designs that I love about it is the filter. The filter comes apart because the top comes off when you unscrew the center bolt. This allows easy removal for cleaning. I have rinsed off the filter and reused it several times. I am thinking of getting a replacement filter as it is looking long in the tooth, but it's only $15. Is there a rule against posting a link to an vendor's item that is not authorized vender?

Personally, spending $230 on a metal tube and filter is way too much. I mean for that much I could get a MX-6 4-2-1 header and get it modified!

A vendor on the forum here (Protephile) sells Simota CAIs for $100...it's the same as any other CAI, just cheaper...it fits well too!

i got the k&n cai for 230, i think it was worth it. they are a respected brand and the filters are top quality. i wouldn't trust anything on ebay really but im sure they work fine

I got the K&N typhoon CAI..works awesome, i got it as a gift on my bday from my ex but i would never have paid $230 for a CAI...Simota works just fine but im a name brand *****

hey everyone, thanks for all of your suggestions and help, has anyone had any specific experience with the Vibrant brand one? it looks kind of shady and i'm not sure if it'll come with all the nuts/bolts to get it on right

get the 20~30 dollar one off ebay and buy a good filter... HKS, K&N, AEM.... Trust me, there's not enough difference to matter.
