CAI = Hydrolock :(

Sri > Cai

Yeah, but from where? I mean, I'd get a SRI just for a little added feeling of safety, but where? I've only seen the Cobb which isn't even out yet AFIAK?

I remember some vague references to a Speed3 SRI ghettofitted to a Speed6 but it didn't sound very awesome.

This pretty much comforts me. That, and I recalled how many people I know in town with daily drivers with CAIs.

I think I was overestimating how easy it is to hydrolock a car.

That was the point I was trying to make earlier. It takes a talented individual to hydro lock... No offense OP.

Sometimes "puddles" just aren't avoidable. I hit one on the interstate from a clogged drain. I saw it just in time to get off the gas and hope I make it to the other side. Of course, I didn't.

Same thing happened to me on I95. It was either hit the puddle as fast as possible while idling and hope to hydroplane through it, or slam the brakes and stop before it. But, then I have to deal with the problem of a F*ckin city full of people behind be doing 80 mph in a downpour. I opted for the idling through the puddle. Car got through, then sputtered and shut off. Fortunately, i shorted out the MAF which stalled the car, and I was only idling so no Hydrolock. BUT IT IS POSSIBLE. And to all the posters that are criticizing the original poster, not all puddles are avoidable.

Same happened to me ,,,,, but I DID NOT crank the car with the plugs IN...... and she made out alive !!!!!

hydrolock

Happened to me the other day in my MS3... Was forced to hit a 6inch + deep puddle... I just thought, cold air intake!!!!!!! Threw it in neutral and turned the key off... so I rolled through the puddle with no power steering or brakes.. luckily it was on a straight road with no stoplight!! Anyhow I made it to the other side of the pond, started the engine while I was still rolling and kept going.... (eekfu)(eekfu)(eekfu)to hydrolocking

Sorry to hear about your troubles, hope everything works out.

I did want to address the comments though. I've never had any issues with my CAI, and heard plenty of people complain about the CAI and water.

My first impression has been, "There's no way, the intake is almost a foot off the ground!". Also, I know a lot of people mention the vents and how messy their filter is on the vent side. They mentioned the vents let a lot of water in too.

I was working on my car and noticed there happens to be this strategically placed hole on the underside of the car right before the filter. It got me wondering if it would act as a hose and spray the water from the puddle up and onto the filter.

Just food for thought...
