CAI and Hydrolock question?

I just got my new cold air intake. Should I be too worried about water getting into my engine. I have herd of engines locking up because of water coming through the intake.

the filter must be submerged for hydrolock to happen.

so dont go driving through deep puddles.

I don't think that's true. In a recent edition of Grassroots Motorsports magazine, they destroyed a Mustang 8cyl engine by running a CAI down in the wheel well, without any splash shield. They drove through some regular puddles, and it was enough water up in the filter to destroy the engine.

So I don't think it needs to be submerged. It probably DOES take a lot of water though...

jtallon,

he submerged his filter..it even says it in the discussion you posted. If you drive into standing water deep enough to submerge the filter, your screwed.

So generally don't drive through standing water. (Your not supposed to anyway as it can indicate a flash flood is about to occur).

The 3's intake filter is mounted pretty darn low...but if you look at the way the whole stock intake system is setup...its intake is pretty low as well.

The 6's have seen two hydrolocks...one stock and one with an injen intake. If you hit deep enough water your screwed no matter what your running, stock or not.

dont submerge! I just had a CLOSE call with hydrolock! I did manage to get the car to start after 36 hrs
