2010 Evo X GSR SSS
Sold my 08.5 Mazdaspeed 3 GT and got a new Mitsu Evo X GSR. The MS3 is a fantastic car but got to the point where I really was missing a AWD car and wished I had at least kept one of my old WRXs. I thought about picking up an old GD STI for a project car but really wanted an AWD daily as well, so I finally got to test drive a 2010 STI and a 2010 Evo GSR. I was surprised at how disappointed I was with the STI and simply amazed at the the Evo.

If you're considering making a move to either one, Evo is the better move, as I felt the STI was actually below par compared to the MS3. Yes, the AWD can put down the power in a different (not better) fashion, but then handling, feel, and steering of the MS3 blows the STI away. The STI has a great clutch and 6 speed, I'll give it that.

I don't want to turn this into yet another STI vs. Evo vs. MS3 argument, but I'll just leave it at this: Go test drive each back to back, and then evaluate what exactly you want out of the car both stock and with mods.

Here's some pics. Much like the MS3, it'll remain fairly stock, though I've already got a Cobb Accessport and flashed it Stage I.

true story. and in the reflection of the rear bumper of the ms3 theres a cx7.

you cant escape that easy :p lol

I was actually looking at getting one earlier this year, but couldn't make the ends meet... Congrats on the new ride!

Lol I had a peeing dog just like that too!

He was an idiot dog, but he was really good at killing snakes.

Thanks, I just realized that I posted this in the Mazda 3 section and not the Mazdaspeed one.

My dog is an attention monger and always has to get in my pictures and do something like pee.

I LOVE Mazdas and before I got the MS3, I got my wife a CX7 GT AWD. I traded that in for a 2010 CX9 GT AWD earlier this year. I love how it still drives like a car, with sharp precise steering and handling. It has tons of room, confy, quiet and is a lot better on the mpg than the CX7.

I got the Evo for about $1k under invoice with the SSS package (sight, sound and spoiler) which is a must IMO. It gives you the HIDs, fogs, keyless entry, bluetooth, Fosgate stereo and of course the wing. I really wanted navi but simply couldn't find one within a 1000 miles.

Made the switch to a Evo.

I meant to post this thread in the MS3 section instead of the 3. Maybe a moderator can move it as it pertains more to the MS3ers.

I can honestly say if it were not for having an MS3, I would ended up in another Subaru only to still feel like it's missing that handling "it". The Mazdas showed me how a car should steer, feel and handle with precision and feedback, something that I could never quite achieve in a WRX or STI, and doubt the new 2011s would be that much better.

Bottom line, MS3 folks that are thinking about a STI or Evo, go Evo. Drive them back to back and you'll see what I mean.

Oh, MSRP was $37k and some change. Invoice was something like $34,600.

The Fosgate system is nice, but the amp has an auto sound level adjustment that brings the lower and higher frequencies down if it gets to loud. Apparently the only fix is to replace the amp with an aftermarket one which I'll probably end up doing.

But before the sound nanny kicks in, it hits HARD. Harder than the system in my wife's CX9.
