Buying New 2003 Protege5

My girlfriend is trying to purchase a new 2003 Pro5 and wanted to ask people's opinions. She really can't afford an '04 Mazda3 5door so that isn't really the question, plus the additional features don't focus on her desires for the car.

Right now we're talking about a Black Mica, auto, 6cd & moonroof package for 14,350 + ttt. Do you guys this sounds like a decent deal or should we look towards buying a slightly used one? Thanks for the help, former P5 owner here that was totalled and really looking forward to having one back in the family again. I miss driving mine.

That's a better deal than I got when I bought mine in July 2002, BUT she is buying a 2003 car and it's now 2004 so my advice is: go to your bank or credit union and get a loan for 15 grand. Then go to the dealer and offer them 13 grand out the door. If they say no keep raising your bid by 4 or 5 hundred, maybe leave and come back a couple times, the worst that would happen is that you'll end up at the same price you started. Good Luck.

I got mine in manual w/ the CD and moonroof for $14,400, that included TTT and that was in Sept. You should be able to get that or even better. And definitely stick w/ new, not used. Also, look into dealing w/ an internet manager if you can, you can probably get a better deal that way.

Well, they aren't cutting much more fat off because they aren't having much problem getting rid of them atm. I've watched the stock in Georgia dwindle in two days. Thanks for the input guys, going to offer 15,500 OTD for automatic, moon, & 6cd.

I thought the starting point was 14,350 + ttt - how much are taxes??

you get taxed on the 2500 rebate. and it is 14,650, the 14,350 was on the books but not at the dealership... =X

Guess that is not much for the P5 in general, but at this point in the game it is. I would hold them to the flame on this one - I'm sure they want to get rid of it soon.

I paid 14.2 (not including TTT). 5sp, leather, 6CD, moonroof, polished alloy, alarm.... everything except the rearview mirror upgrade.

Got mine without the roof package for 13,500 total.

Tell her to deal more.

Its a good idea to buy new in 2004 if you can find them. I recently got a used one because the new ones with all my preferences were hard to come by.
