Bushings and Transmission

Well, I'm taking my car in tommorow for what will hopefully be the last bushing replacement. They are replacing my bushings with the new part (BN7H-28-156C, compared to the old 156B). They will also be looking at my transmission linkages and draining the fluid to check for metal in case it is seriously messed up.

The chief mechanic there said that before the MP3s/P5s came, they never had a single complaint with the manual tranny in the Protege. He also had MSP training in Shaumberg, IL yesterday and mentioned that the tranny was well capable of handling over 200HP from initial tests in the Mazdaspeed.

I'm not entirely convinced I even have a problem with my tranny. I think I just miss a shift sometimes (1st to 2nd grind), but I figure if I've done any damage, I might as well get it fixed.

I'll let you know what they find!

200hp? That's it?

We desprately need an aftermarketer to release tranny upgrades. How can we go about this?

I've noticed the 1-2 grind was much improved when I put in the Kartboy bushings. Also, I work on cars for a living and I think that our clutches release too close to the floor. I'm going to replace the fluid and bleed the system better and see if I can firm up the pedal some.

I had my bushing replaced, but have noticed in the last few days it seems to be that the problem is returning again. :(

i got my carin the dlr right now...goin on 2 days...tey are replacing the bushings....i told them about the grind and lock out of 3rd....they are gonna align my wheels and STEERING WHEEL....i already have warped rotors so they will replace them "under warrenty"...it is what my svc mngr said...and i gave hem a list of other s***....so we'll see what happens...

hey traveler, i dont think you're gonna see any improvement in the clutch. the slave cylinder that mazda uses is the culprit for the slightly mushy pedal. If you could make one work that has a a better "feel" to it, that would do the trick. It's not just a protege problem....it's a mazda problem on that, mx6's, mx-5's, proteges, and 626's all have that same "dead" pedal feel. you might wanna try one out of a B2300 2wd truck and see if that makes any noticable changes.

First off, the inital post says over 200HP on the transmission, so I'm pretty sure people won't have anything to worry about with boost applications if they shift properly (but of course, that could be complete BS).

Yeah, our clutch really doesn't engage until you mash it to the ground all the way. My girl's old 90 mx-6 definitely didn't have this feel to it though!

I'm actually kind of upset with my dealer for the first time. When I brought it in, they were very quick to say things like "These are rock solid transmissions and we haven't had any problems until the P5 and MP3s came out, due to people shifting hard and fast" etc. They also said their tech-bulletin from MazdaUSA said to look for signs of abuse for ANY transmission issue. Its almost as if they were trying to tell me it was my fault.

I really hope they try to give me trouble with my AEM intake being the cause. Because the chief mechanic told me the transmission is perfectly fine, even for the Mazdaspeed. And then I can just tell them to suck it down, because the AEM is only like 2WHP :).

Blech...

Mostly I'm talking about the engagement/release point. It's too close to the floor. The clutch doesn't disengage fully until the pedal is almost all the way down. It shouldn't be like that. I've seen that someone else on here changed to better fluid and bled it really well and it changed the way it shifted completely. I work at a dealership so I can just put the car up on the lift one of these weekends and replace the brake fluid with fresh DOT 4 and bleed it really well. I'll see if that helps any. The only sure way I've found to not bark it into gear on the 1-2 shift is to hold the pedal down longer. That's a lousy solution if you are trying to drive fast!
