Burning massive oil on cold start

So I have an '00 ES 203k on the clock. The car has slowly and slowly been burning more and more oil when running over 4k. As of last week I noticed another problem - now it's burning a massive amount of oil on cold starts. Smokes like crazy for about 30 seconds then goes away. My first guess would have been valve seals, but after reading around some I think it could be anything. Esp after reading the last post by gozz in this thread:

Has anyone experienced this and/or remedied? I tried some lucas for the time being, no help there.

Try replacing Pcv if that doesn't help look into getting the valve seals replaced and while the head off piston rings just incase
