Burn out question,

So im probably going to get made fun of for this, but how do you do a burn out in this car? Ive never owned a powerful car before and it being new and all im afraid to just dump the clutch at 5000rpms like i did with my old accord. What rpms do you let off the clutch at and do you try to hold a constant rpm or what?

rev high and dump can cause tranny problems with the sharp slam against it but a few burnouts here and there arent so bad. You could roll backwards a little - maybe 10km/h - and rev it and let the tires break loose and then pull the handbrake and really give er hell, thats my personal favorite.

While I am not much a burnout person, I find with the amount of torque this car has its not very hard to do. I've done some practice launches at around 3k RPMs, and the tires will easily lose grip. I imagine engaging the clutch at this RPM isn't horribly bad, but anyone doing a burn out is going to put a lot of ware on the car anyways. Other people on this forum will be able to answer your question better.

Just turn the DSC off.

well, you're going to want to rev up to 2500-3000rpms to get the turbo spooling. then you release the clutch quickly but still steadily (don't just DROP it) until it's fully engaged. shift at about 5000rpms to get to 2nd gear...then 5500-5700rpms thereon out. the reason for all the short shifting is because we have mid-ranged turbos, so we actually lose boost at about 5500rpms.

keep in mind that our traction control and DSC will work against you, so make sure to turn DSC off. if you want traction control gone too, you have to hold the DSC button while the car is still off and then start the engine as you hold the button. when you do this, both will be disengaged. remember: we are torque limited in 1st and 2nd (to a lesser degree) gears, so get out of first gear early (that's why 5krpms).

by the time you get good at the 1/4 mile, you should be able to get up to about 100mph as you cross the line in the mid to lower 14 secs. this, of course, will take some practice before you're able to do that. have fun and make sure to be safe about where you try this...;o

oh, and no, this is not a noob question, because launching our cars well is roughly about as easy as herding cats...;o i am far from an expert because i don't want to practice (since this will obviously not be very nice for your transmission) a lot, but it's a lot of fun when you DO get to do it...=D

Street tires do not need to be warmed up!!!!
Burnouts are only for drag tires/race tires!!!

If you are doing it for fun, them suit yourself...

Rule number one!! MAKE SURE YOUR FRONT WHEELS ARE IN WATER!!! This helps the wheels spin thus evaporating the water and then making smoke. This will reduce transmission shock/strain!!!

But like I said before, street tires don't need to be warmed up...

True drag racers with go around the water pit...you don't want wet tires at the start line.

Another reason for not having to do a burnout is that they also add traction enhancers to the drag surface...

Good luck!!!

errrr...so i answered the wrong question completely because i'm stupid and can't read...SPEAKIN of noob...;o

I thought it was a good idea to do a burnout before 1/4 mile on street tires to clean some of the road debris and junk off the tires... that's what I've heard, never been to a track before

Don't you do that through normal driving? (drive2)
You can clean your tires at a stop light... (burnout)

I guess a quick non-elaborated burnout would be fine to clean off the tread; nothing like a 10 second burnout. But traditionally, burnouts are for race tires!!
