Bubbled Paint: 2002 Protege 5

Is anyone aware of paint problems with the Protege series of cars. I local (Boston, MA) service station mentioned that paint bubbles that I have (hood, 2 or 3 wheel perimeters) are similar to a number of other Mazda auto's he has seen? Cost would be $600 - $1000 to fix all of them. It kills me to see the paint peeling like it is, but w/o any support there isn't much I think I can do other than complain?

I'm past warrantee, would a complaint letter to Mazda do me any good?

You might check with a dealer and see if your corrosion warranty is still good. I think it's a certain number of years and unlimited mileage. I may be wrong.

The paint is peeling cause the metal rusted from the inside. I think it's a common problem on cars up north in general.

If you have an 02.5 than you may have 2 days left on your perforation rust warranty. I know it ends in August, cuz I just got a new hatch put on about 2 months ago and they said the warranty ends in August. So you better get your car to a local dealership soon! It's a 5 year, unlimited mile warranty. If you got an 02, you may be screwed.

i have rust on the seam on the underside of my trunk lid. i have an 03 lx. does this warranty apply to all proteges? bought my car certified pre owned with the warranty and all that jazz.

yups. i think when ya buy it, the warranty transfers over. thats how i got the warranty for my p5 xD
