installing my header today, I managed to break one of the manifold bolts (the top left).. the bolt itself snapped in half (in the threads, it's not a case where the head of the bolt twisted off).. so half of the bolt is still in place and it's a bit recessed..

i'm looking for suggestions. i'm in the baltimore/md area and would probably rather have a pro or a shop remove the remainder of the bolt.

has this happened to anyone else, and can you give me any insight and/or suggestions to recover from this?

thanks..

You have two options ,1 you can drill out the center of the bolt and use an easy out .
2 you can bore the head and retap the hole . Should that the head off for this one

go to midus its gona cost you 100 bucks if you can get a center punh in there to start unthreading the bolt.

okay, after looking closer at it, it appears that if i take the header off, the bolt isn't recessed all the way.. in fact, after the header flange is out of the way, the bolt extends out about an 1/8 of an inch.. i'm going to remove the header and try using vice grips to turn the bolt and back it out..

once i'm able to get it out, should i replace it with a mazda OEM bolt (***** on the price (upbum) ) or would something from home depot be sufficient?

if anything take it to a machine shop. i broke one of mine and was charged 35 to get it removed and retapped.

Go to a respectable auto parts store and look to find ARP studs and bolts. Get something hardened (Grade 8 or better); I'm not quite sure if Home Depot sells studs - bolts, yes.

You can get a set from ARP I am not sure if the bolts that HD sells are able to take that amount of heat. You can get a set from AWR he has it on his web site.
