Broken Bypass valve (Wastegate), long term problem?

I picked up my 07 MS3 on 9/17. When I picked it up it was raining hard, so I didn't examine it very closely. It had 42 miles on it when I got it and I drove another 50 miles before I looked under the hood. On the way home I did notice it was backfiring at idle. So the next day, I looked under the hood and noticed that the vacuum line to the bypass valve was broken off. I also noticed the clamp for the recirculating hose on the bypass valve was missing. I used epoxy to temporarily fix the broken vacuum line. I got the part replaced a week later at a different dealer. It appears that the dealer broke the valve on another car and didn't have the part so took the part from my car and then put the bad one on my car (I did take pics to document the broken part). Then they sold the car to me without replacing the part. So I drove 100 miles with a vacuum leak and a relief valve without a vacuum signal.

I am wondering if there would be any permanent damage done to the car because of this that might crop up after the warranty. I think without the vacuum line the turbo could over boost. I don't know if the electronics could control this. What does the forum think? I think it might have caused some damage that might not be apparent right now. I should be given an extended warranty for free.

While the dealer did give me a good deal, they sold the car to me with a broken part. Beside that I asked if the motor mount recall was done, the sales guy said yes. I later found out it wasn't done. I had to get that done also.

The car does seem to be operating normally right now.

Your fine as long as you didnt beat the hell out of it. I wouldnt worry to much about it. The vacuum line is only one of several fail safes in the car to keep overboosting. I seriously doubt you will score a free extended warranty out of it but you can try. Goodluck with it.

Im really confused myself..... The bypass valve and wastegate or Two entirely different things. The Wastegate is the part that is sticking out of the turbo that looks kinda like a mushroom. The peice that is replaced with a bov is the bypass valve. The name wastegate sounds like it would be the bov but really its controlling the boost pressure, not releasing it...

If your vacumm line was screwed up that means it wasnt letting the bypass valve release the extra pressure after you let off the gas efficiently, which would put the pressure back on the turbo. Which is how shaft play I assume is created that kills turbos, but after 100 miles your car should be fine.

Dealers are stupid, when my motor mount broke it pinched my vac line and they failed to notice that, it just seems like thats their job, to screw you over.
