British folk - How much did you haggle for your CX-5 and what did you achieve?

CX-5 Sport Nav
I just finished this stage of the negotiations, I always hate the fact there is a "dance" to buying a car, especially new from the showroom floor. I ended up with about 1350 from the list price once you include bumping my part-ex value by 500, a full tank of diesel, 750 off cash price and a set of official mats.

The car spec is Sport Nav FWD 2.2L Diesel 150PS in meteor grey and stone leather trim. Checking around internet brokers you can get about 2k off list price but I was willing to not fight more or attempt to call their bluff when they said no more discount to be had due to them having my exact spec available in 2 weeks rather than waiting until Nov/Dec.

As you allude to above this can be quite difficult to pin down when a part-ex is involved. Are you getting cash off the new car or cash over the value of the part-ex. Does it benefit the garage to show the transaction in a particular way I.e. car sold at list with a good part-ex or vice versa?

In my case I traded a 2010 Jaguar XF and either visited or spoke to about a dozen garages ranging from Newcastle through S Wales and much of South Central England. Only two were not prepared to barter, a couple more said they couldn't get close to what I wanted as a "cost to change" but the others were happy to talk.

Suffice to say that after much haggling and against an average quoted trade in price of about 16250 for the XF I purchased from a dealer about 40 miles away despite having a dealer within 5 miles of where I live. The dealer I purchased from knew I was serious since I purchased my MX5 from them two years ago and worked hard to find a purchaser for my XF which they did and which allowed them to offer me an above average Part-ex.

So in the end I got the equivalent of 18450 for the Jag so that might be said to equate to a 2200 discount on the CX5 and what's more, and contrary to many folk on here, they had a car to the exact spec I was seeking sat in the showroom, brand new and unregistered in metallic white. Took delivery within 2 DAYS of placing the order.

Result = one happy camper, as they say

I bought with out part ex and got around the same around 2200, car was around 26150 OTR 12 months tax and full tank of fuel.

Ok we just bought a Sport Nav 2.2D 175ps in Crystal White Pearlescent with the following add ons:

Safety Pack
Spare Wheel
Welcome Illumination
Boot Liner
LED Daytime Running Lights
Under Garnish
Bumper Step
Illuminated Scuff Plates
Luggage Steel Plates
Mud flaps front and rear
First aid kit
Dog guard
Boot light
Ipad headrest holder
Luxury mats
Alloy pedals
Gap insurance
Paint and interior protection

All of this came to 28748 on the road! We got an absolutely huge amount of discount and we are well chuffed! Including all those extras and still coming in at less than the standard on the road price for the Sport Nav 2.2 d 175 model is no mean feat but we did it! I think if you take all the options into account we have got the cheapest retail CX5 on the road in the UK!!!!

63 plate black mica sport 150 got 6% off book price free diamond brite free mats and free spare wheel traded my Honda 07 FRV EX ictdi 68000 on clock 7000 px

got free met paint on my car (worth 520) at the time 1000 off list was best broker price. however the dealer offered more px than the broker so the dealer vs broker price was 350 diff. not worth the hassle IMO. In the end I sold my car at webuyanycar for 200 more than the dealer offered. The dealer did see the intended p/ex whereas the broker only had pics of it to look at.

deals are better now than a year ago. I think the new multimedia ... ahem maz3 update wont be too far away.

nearest dealer offered 0 discount 'they are selling like hot cakes -no discount available'

anyone who spins that line instantly loses any chance of my custom. 1 phone call 30 min drive later and 525 saving. Some sales people are such stuck up lazy so and so's.

I didn't haggle too hard as it was a reasonable deal at the time.

Drive the deal are offering around 2200 of my model, that's the minimum discount you should be looking for.

Yeah drive the deal are the cheapest place to buy the car at the moment. We found someone even cheaper on ebay (yes I know!!!) and they can do the car for 25k however it turns out they are actually a leasing company using their buying power to broker massive discounts that even the dealer cant offer (apparently) and then selling the cars instead of leasing them. The car gets registered to you in your name at their address and then the address gets changed on arrive so that it doesnt affect the registered keeper number! Apparently all this is highly illegal! We took a quote from this leasing company to our local dealer in Cambridge who had the car we wanted in stock. They told us they would give us the car with all our extras (see list in post 4) for 27500. They took my deposit and shook my hand then called me / hours later saying there is no way they can sell at that price as Mazda wont let the price go through the system.

We then took the quote to Peterborough Mazda who explained all about the dodgy lease company scam and sent our details to the regional manager at mazda and showed him the quote we had for 28775 from the lease company. It went to the top at Mazda apparently and the regional manager agreed to giving us 27 off the lease co quote and we got the car for 28748.

The dealer we used also told us these cars are selling so well that Mazda themselves are not allowing huge discounts to be given. He gave the customers before us 1200 off the price of their CX5 so when we got nearly 4k we were well happy!

We are about to take delivery (within the next 5 days!! (yippy)) of a CX-5 150 FWD Diesel Sport in Crystal White, with LED daytime running lights, Cargo Tray, Cargo Net, Free Mats. Ordered it back in November and after talking with the salesman about which cars we where test driving, he offered 6% of the price of the car, 20% off dealer accessories. We tried to haggle for more but, we wouldn't move from this, however, he did offer good part ex on two cars. Compared to other sources and other manufactures I'm happy with the deal.

Bet you cant wait! 7 weeks til ours is ready!!! Feels like forever!! Post some pics up when you get it mate!! Also first thoughts too!!!
