Bringing it to the dealer AGAIN!

Now the car is 'clunking' and 'clicking' an awful lot when I shift. It's not supposed to do that, right? It did it before the engine dropped out, but I just figured a little bit of clunking was normal - now I'm very paranoid.

Has anyone else got a 'clunking' when they shift their MS3?

I've only gotten a jumping back and forth when I finish the shift once in a while, but nothing like that.

Sounds like you have a lot of bad luck! Or perhaps a car that hates you :P

What is 'jumping back and forth'?

Sometimes, when i let go of the clutch, I don't get the perfect balance needed for a smooth shift. Hence, it 'jumps' or it jerks back and forth a bit, depending on how bad I shift. lol

When I rev hard, I can feel that vibrating, but I know it's the bushings inside doing the work.

ONTOPIC: Nope sorry, Didn't see or feel or hear anything wrong with mine.
Maybe your car hates you or you have bad luck. lol :p

It sounds like they didn't fix it right

I can't sell it, I owe more than it's worth.

The damned engine fell out, now your hearing clicking. Sounds like they didn't fix it right. Didn't they have to replace the tranny? You need to call Mazda USA and get this fixed ASAP. Don't go through the dealer. Call Mazda and explain to them what happened. Tell them that you were willing to have it fixed but it's apparent that the car isn't working right. Tell them you would like the regional manager to take a look at the car. Don't take no for an answer.

FWIW, I have had wonderful luck with Mazda USA/my dealership. As long as you don't come off as a jerk and approach it in a reasonable manner they should be responsive.

It's a pity you've had so many major problems, but realize that there's always one bad apple. I've owned 6 Mazdas over 12 years and each of them performed flawlessly.

Good luck

Better known as shift-shock or something? I know my Malibu loves to do that, POS.

I get that sometimes when I shift from 1st to 2nd.

Mine does some times when it's cold. Dealer didn't find anything wrong. But I have my doubts.(dunno)

The clunking is well known and I'm afraid it's normal. Most people experience it between 1-2 but some get it between 2-3. For me it usually happens at lower speeds but it never grinds. If it's grinding then you have to get worried as it could indicate a problem with the syncros or your shifting habit/timing.

Some trannies do clunk, it's something you'll have to get used to. Maybe in the later models Mazda might eradicate the clunk altogether. I've already put 8500 miles on my car the tranny shifts the same albeit a little smoother.

1. Never mod your car. If you think you have problems with it now, you're going to flip your s*** with all the new ones the aftermarket will bring to it.

2. I hope your putting all your work orders in a folder and keeping it somewhere safe. If they say theres nothing wrong and you point out that you've been bitching about it to them since day one when it finally fails, you'll have a lot more leverage.

3. You had a Delta 88? That was an automatic correct? Not saying your a bad driver, but have you had someone that always drives stick drive with ya to see if you were doing anything wierd/wrong? I've got a friend that goes through clutches like nobodies business when I never do, and I drive 10X more aggressively - we both have a focus and a mustang gt. Your driving/shifting style could have a lot to do with it too. If you can police someone up and just have them watch you drive to see if your doing something different, maybe they can help point that out to you.

Good points, all. I plan on having at least $10k in the bank when I start modding, and probably a cheap motorcycle as a back-up.

I learned how to drive a stick-shift on a Ford Ranger - it's a nice vehicle to take the abuse of a first-time stick-driver. It did take some getting used to how quickly the MS3 'winds down' from high revs though.

So some 'clunking' is normal? I'm so paranoid after the engine-drop that I'm not really very forgiving of this sort of thing.

Scan your work orders/tickets. I want to read what they did and the "official" explanation is.

So, the tech said there was nothing basically 'wrong' with the car except that he hopes there's a recall on the motor mounts because the car only has three when it really should have four.

That, and they're made of aluminum....

Is somebody going to make a heavy duty full set of motor mounts soon?

There is some after market replacements out. Check the how to forums there is info in there.
As far as clunking I haven't heard noir felt any in my MS3.
