Just wanted to share it with the rest of you. I'm going on vacation next week, going back to visit with friends in knoxville, tn i'll be hitting knoxville dragway, its a 1/8 mile track and im glad im auta the breakin period cause im gonna run it a few times get some slips that'll be in my next post more than likely :)

Ryan, i did the same thing for my car too!
I took a photo of my car turning 1000km while i was driving. I couldn't put over while i was on the highway, so i just snapped it as i was driving. Hopefully it turned out ok, because i had to shoot about 2-3 times to get it right. By then, i might have showed 1001km Darn!. oh well...

wow at 6000. I think spicy had me beat the first time. not driving my car as much got a daily beater. LOL you took at pic of your odo. hahahahahahahahahaha

I don't mean to bring down the party, but once the car reaches 600 miles, its not like there is a switch that goes off and now its safe to go WOT all over the place.
Slowly ramp up the revs now over the next several hundred miles.

Yeah ive heard about no break in, or only drive it above 4500 rpms after 1500 miles!

Anyone remember what their dealer said or is there any real set number from Mazda or is it all just BS? Dont mean to sound like a newb just wondering. Or to just take grimace`s advice cause it seems the most logical.

i totally agree with you on the breakin

i know its not like some switch that goes off, but it's still a good feeling to know that the possibility for me damaging somethign by driving harder is slimmer. yanno. anyways. later

I waited for a little over 1,000 before I started getting the revs up, but I did that in less than 2 weeks. I just eased into the upper RPM's rather than mashing on the gas pedal all day long. Seemed to work out fine, no smells, no leaks, it runs perfect. 2 months to the day of owning it I had 4,900 miles on it. The next day, 4,935 and BAM!!! It'll probably only get 5 miles put on it in the next month. She still runs, so the body shop will be able to start it to move it rather than push it from place to place. At least it'll keep everything flowing and lubed.

I think it's totally fine to drive the hard a bit hard during the break in period. If you accientally hit WOT at one point during accerlating it's fine. Just don't WOT through out the gears to redline. I accidentally put the accelerator to the floor when i was passing someone in 5th gear. But that was below 4500rpm. So, i don't think there is any problem with that.
Although i did manage to stay below 5000rpm for the first 1000km. I occasionally had the car up to 170km/h in 5th before 1000km. It's fine.
