Brake fluid reservoir leaking?

I've noticed that every time I'm under the hood checking things out that there's fluid on the brake fluid reservoir. There's a lip at the halfway point on the reservoir that the fluid seems to collect on. It's more of a slow seepage I think. I'll wipe it clean and next time I happen to check it, there's just a little bit more sitting on that lip. The reservoir is still at max. I happen to read on a Mustang forum that the newer models have this problem of the cap not sealing well. Any one else notice this? If you get a chance to look under your hood, report back. I'd hate to have to bring this into the dealer, but I will if I have a faulty reservoir or cap.

Will try to post pics tonight if needed...

my 09 did the same thing. i was under the impression it was over filled. i kept wiping it clean and keeping an eye on the level and sure enough, it eventually stopped leaking so i wouldnt stress too much, just keep an eye on it. (I also had them check it when i did my first oil change, he put a new cap and still leaked so it really was overfilled.)

Thanks for chiming in, turbos3. I guess I'll just keep wiping and hope it stops. It's not bothersome, but I just wanted to make sure nothing was the matter. Perhaps some come from the factory overfilled? Braking performance hasn't been any different either.

I can't remember how those things seal at the cap. Is there a gasket? It could just be leaking slightly so that when the fluid slops around while driving, a slight bit seaps out?

I loosened the cap the other day to wipe it clean. I remember seeing a rubber seal on the underside of the cap.

Been keeping any eye on this and the slight seapage continues. Only a teeny trace of fluid every few days. Wondering if I should get a new cap.

Mine has been doing that since the day we got it. I only had to add fluid once. We have the car since June 07'. It didn't seem to be hurting the surrounding paint or plastic so I didn't worry about it.

Yeah - the seaping is VERY slow it seems. And the brake fluid level was still at MAX when I checked a couple days ago. It's a minor annoyance. I guess getting a new cap won't help things too much as it's somewhat of a norm.

it might be getting close the the level its suppose to be at. i would bet that it will stop soon. its exactly what happened to mine.

Check the bresevoir this morning and it's a tad above the MAX arrow. And the underside of the cap had lots of brake fluid on it. I guess I'l wait for it to get below the MAX point. Or I suppose I could extract some out?
