bov,what can i do?

Basically, we need to find out what bypass valve our car uses. It's probably a standard part used in other cars as well.

For example, 2001GTI1.8T had a bosch bypass valve in VW before he replaced it, that same valve is used in Porsche's, Volvo's, Saabs, you name it. So if we can find out what our car uses, and what other cars use it, we can use the aftermarket replacements for those cars. Who knows, maybe we also have the bosch part, which we can replace with a Forge or Bailey valve like the 1.8T guys.

So if you've taken out your stock bypass valve, what's written on it, let us know!

The prototype model intake sounded sooo much cooler then the production model on my car :(

The BPV or Recirc valve on our cars is supposedly a hold over from the RX-7 turbos...I guess it's not exactly the same, but close is what I've heard. Again...the TurboXS should work on our cars, check with Spud to see what ever happened with that. That's the best I can offer! Also...for fuel AND timing management, perfworks is working on a piggyback. Dunno when that's coming, should be soon though.

EDIT: I just looked/listened to the Bailey dump valve online...that looks and sounds kinda cool. The install looks pretty easy too, but it won't recirc. I don't know anything about it, though...anyone have experience with these?

I know that you can run an open vent BOV by removing the BPV You buy 2.5 to 3 inch piping with a flange welded onto it (BOV hooks up to flange) you can run this piping from intercooler to turbo.... You cap off the intake and run the vacuum hose into the bov! Just do away with the stock BPV. note: it isn't a pushing noise...it is more of a high pitch whistle noise. Once i buy the bov i will post pics on my cardomain page....

I can get you a HKS SSQV for your MP5 as soon as I help dexter put his on when I get back to Chicago in 3 weeks.

People had problems with it on the 1.8T but I got it on mine with no CEL and no codes are being thrown by the diagnosis machine.

btw...my kit is completely bolt on and will most likely fit on dexter's MP5 with no problems

I dont know if your refering to me, but keep in touch with Dexter to find out how it worked on his car. Dont bother him until 3 weeks from now tho.

is he gonna do the same setup as i planned? I am told this is how most turbo setups are worked....

hmmm so what is your way, i heard you lose sound quality if it isn't open vent. Also, i heard that your car will stall out if you do it anyother way...

I just peaked under my hood to look at my bypass valve. There is a red sticker on the back of it, but I can't my head in a spot where I can read it, does anybody have one out that they can read?

Servoeyes,

Here's the link to the Bailey DV30 bypass valve that I had on my VW. They do make bypass valves (they call them Diverter Valves) I just need to find out if this will fit our cars.

http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/sha..._drivetrain.cfm&PPT=Drivetrain&IL=BaileyValve

All DVs will fit on any turboed car. You just gotta make it fit. Its just hoses you gotta remember.

And mine is vented into the atmosphere. My speculation to why these people are stalling in neutral is because they did not properly adjust the idle screw in the back. They need to do that but probably have no idea what it does.

Here ya go!!

I tried to take a pic, but it won't focus on the writing. Anyways, here is what it shows on the sticker:

N3 A1
084900 - 065 ABV
DENSO

Can anyone work with that info???

1) The BPV should fit...like snowboy said, it's just a hose off the IC Piping and then from the BPV to the intake.

2) The reason that people are stalling in neutral is becuase they rev high and then release, blowing off too much air that's not picked up by the MAF. So they go lean and stall...not exactly healthy...but if using the HKS or Greddy, the valve is tight at idle, thereby allowing the car to run fine. It's really only the other situation that's getting people into trouble.

3) How does the Bailey BPV sound recirc'd? Is it very loud? I'm not sure how many psi 1.8Ts run, so I want to make sure the MSP at 6-7 psi will sound about the same before I dive in...those are wicked cheap, and they seem like good quality, I may go for it.

Thanks guys! It's good to have some turbo experienced guys aroun, no matter what you drive!

My Bailey sounded pretty loud. I had a cold air intake on my 1.8T, so it sounded a lot like darth vader breathing in and out, it was funny. I had my GTI running 1.1bar of boost, I don't know what PSI that is, but it's more than we're pushing. In the winter I would turn my chip off when it snowed, so my GTI made much less boost (I had a 150hp 1.8T) and it still sounded pretty good, although not as loud with less boost.

1.1 bar = 1.1 atmospheres :: 1 atmosphere = 14.5 psi
so...~15psi...long way for the MSP to go w/o fuel management. Still if if sounded good with less boost I'll look into it. So long as it doesn't sound like a turkey's mating call! It doesn't...does it?!?!? :D

that's run rich and stall :D the maf has already read the incoming air but when the air is released to the atm, the computer will still think it's in the system and add that amount of fuel....too rich.

and yes the stock bov is from an RX-7.

WHERE CAN I GET THE WAPOOOOSHH SOUND?>!

well check out the link i posted....they also have a link to www.blowoffvalves.com. lots of recordings and vids there. but that sound you describe....hks ssqv and greddy type s let off a whistle with the psshhhhh sound. hks with the fin removed (i.e. recirculated), blitz, apexi, turbo xs type H and S (if i remember the letter correctly) all let off a pshhhhhh sound with no whistle. and that turbo xs rfl.....it's just freakin loud.

My car is being run at 7-8 PSI right now and a bunch of people at the Chicago Mazda Meet this past friday heard my HKS. Trust me...its nice and loud and makes a beautiful ppppppsssssshheeeeessssssssssstttttttttttt

Dude, I noticed you plan on getting a 3" turboback exhaust. Unless your getting a new much bigger turbo, I wouldnt do that. A 3" exhaust is just gonna destroy your little turbo!
