I just got a Mazda 3 and I was wondering if I can put a BOV in it, I really just like the sound it makes, thats all. My friend has a STI and thats where I heard it. If someone could point me in the right direction on which one to get that would be great, also a website to.
Thanks,
Brendan

No, does it have to be turbo, I really don't know anything so just tell me anything. Would it have to be turboed? Also what other upgrades would you recommend? I am new to the car scene.

wow...at least you admitted to not knowing... yes it has to be a turbo to have a bov... and if you have 4+ g's to drop on a turbo and don't mind not having a warrenty i would highly recommend checking here www.hiboost.com

Welcome to the site.

I would reccomend checking out the "forced induction" portion of this forum. Also, visit www.howstuffworks.com and click on the turbocharger link. It will fill you in on the basics.

As I'm bored, I'll tell you what a BOV does: when you are on the throttle in a turbo'd car, you are creating boost, or more pressure into the throttle body. When you lift your foot, there is still boost in the pipes, so to speak. The BOV gives that pressure somewhere to go. If it didn't have that exit, it would go backwards and damage the turbo.

There is really no way you can get a blow-off sound without having a turbo. A new intake will give you a nice *chut* sound when you stom on the gas, though.

i think you can get a bov sound without turbo though. dont they make those ones for n/a cars thats just a speaker with a loud pssssssssssshhhhh mp3 file? im serious. i think i saw that somewhere. sort of gay, but it will deff make people think you got a turbo.

Thanks for responding everyone. Yea I have no clue how anything works, I just liked the sound of it. Is there anyother upgrades that you guys would recommend that won't leave me broke. BTW I have "I" version.

intake, exhaust, short shifter. Any bolt on will prob run around 200-250 and you can do in any order you wish but keep in mind that the major gains will come from F/I.

Turbo is one of the methods of increasing power to your car. The method is called force induction. Increasing power to your car will change the entire behaviour of the car. Since your new to the car scene, if you do go through with a turbo upgrade, do becareful when you first drive it.

And they now make fake ones and you can find them on e-bay
