BOV Question, Stock to External

I am currently rebuilding my boom boom zoom and wanted to install an external wastegate. I was wondering if I installed an external wastegate on the intercooler piping, what should I do with the one that is on the Stock garret turbo. Do I remove it or do I just leave it alone? Probably a dumb question but better now than never. Also, The wastegate and the Blow of valve are essentially the same thing right?

The stock wastegate is inside the turbo....the car doesnt have a BOV stock, it has a BPV(bypass valve) which is a part of the intake/hotpipe.

you have to understand the purpose of both. They are both relief valves. The bov is a relief valve on the intake side to release pressure between shifts or just letting off the throttle. A wastegate is a relief valve for the exhaust side that opens up while boosting to prevent boosting over the set boost level. Since you are talking about intercooler piping, Im guessing you want to add a blow off valve. You won't need a wastegate since the stock turbo is internally gated.

Ok. So I can add a BOV to the existing wastegate? And are their any more reliable wastegate/actuators to ensure that there will not be a chance of overboosting, as what happened to my last engine?

You need to read what Spice posted again...the BOV and wastegate are not a part of each other. Adding in a BOV will do nothing to prevent overboosting. If you add an externat wastegate I'm pretty sure you have to take the turbo apart and weld the internal wastegate shut.

ok, read my last post thoroughly because you aren't making any sense. Your car blew up from overboosting? If that is the case and your wastegate actuator really is bad, then go to atpturbo.com and get their replacement actuator. It's only like 60 bucks

ninja post!!!! lol

No! A BOV will do nothing to perform as a wastegate.

Think of it this way:

A BOV works off of vacuum(neg pressure), as soon as you let of the gas the car goes into vacuum which opens the BOV and vents the air out of the system.

The wastegate works on boost pressure (positive pressure). Once the PSI hits the target the wastegate opens and sends excess PSI into the exhaust stream to ensure only the set PSI is staying in the system...

*not to the wastegate but in addition to

you are confusing..lol. Im just going to answer everything now. If you wanted to add a blow off valve, yes you can add one. But if you do, you either want to leave the stock bpv there to prevent stalling(dual setup) or remove the stock bpv all together and recirculate your bov. Another option is to relocate your MAF and get a bov to prevent stalling. But based off of your posts, that may be too much for you to grasp right now. If you wanted to get a new wastegate actuator, then go to atpturbo.com and order a replacement actuator for the turbo. Our turbo is internally gated so all you need is an actuator. Going with an external wastegate would be too much work.

Go and google the difference between blow off valves and wastegates please. Better yet, hit up youtube. Not trying to be harsh if it seems that way. But you have a lot to learn from what I see

The Wastegate is a control measure for the turbo. It lets a turbo reach and hold "Maximum Boost" based on a calibrated spring. If the spring is designed to hold 7 PSI, it will open and prevent the turbo from making more that 7 PSI.

The Bypass Valve and Blow Off Valve (Do the same thing) Release surge pressure from the system to prolong the life of the turbo, plus improve performance by mitigating LAG.

NEITHER ARE PART OF THE OTHER

So this is the bpv right. This can be exchanged for a BOV which must be attached to the stock intercooler pipe from the turbo to the intercooler and the pipe from the intercooler to the intake manifold right?

if you still have stock IC pipes, you are not putting a blow off valve on anything. But yes, that is the stock valve

ok. Looked it up and I got it now (yippy)(yippy)(yippy)(yippy) I bought my car from a Hispanic young lad that completely F**ked with the wiring and the vaccum/turbo system. He super glued the smaller intlet on the bpv back on and did a completely rubbish job. Guess i need to buy a new one. He put an MBC on to and I will probably be back to ask some questions about where about to connect the boost control tubes and how to properly remove the MBC to turn the MSP to stock.

Your engine blew because of the MBC, remove it if you don't want to blow another one. The BPV inlet always breaks on the hotpipe.
All you have to do to remove the MBC is get a straight vacuum tee in place on the vacuum line for the wastegate actuator or replace the line altogether.
