BOV info plz

hey today is my first day on the forum so im not to sure how to work it that well. im sure there is a hundred questions like that this out there but ill ask anyway lol. i just bought a 2003.5 titanium MSP yesterday with some aftermarket parts but i want a nice sounding blowoff valve. i am new to turbo cars and im not to sure what all i need to do or what i need to get and where i need to mount it and all. if some of you more experienced people could give me some tips that would be great.

also if it helps i really dont have any engine mods besides a boost control

There is a ton of info in this forum but the only way to access it is by looking for it by using the search function. Literally just about everything has already been covered and debated about. Your search would have brought up this:

Congrats on your purchase, Show us some pics of the ride and mods. Now if you want to keep a modded MSP alive you need to dive hard into this forum and research, these cars are very fickle, but if you treat them right, they will last.

OOHH and if you don't have a boost gauge...GET ONE!!
Don't turn that boost up until you learn more about these cars stock is 5-6 psi, These motors like to blow!!

I would say that you would work on the HardPipes first, and get ride of the stock Intercooler. Switch for a FMIC or SMIC, then when you have the hardpipes worry about the BOV. If you are going for Sound you are going to have to relocate your MAF to the Coldpipe, about 10inches from the Throttle Body. then you can VTA without any problems.

awsome thank you guys. and i do have a boost gauge. i think im gonna go with the hard pipe idea first with an upgraded intercooler. unfortunately i have a tight budget and getting a fmic+pipe (i dont really want a smic) is quite expensive.

I love my SMI, its bolt on, no cutting the car. Gains are good too. and people say that the less pipeing gives the car more "Peppieness"

How much are the SMIC you've found for sale? I have about $300 in my hard pipes and FMIC and BOV. I haven't seen an upgraded SMIC for less then that.

im not sure how you pulled off 300$.
I paid 600 for my SMI + Hardpipes + BOV

canadian Dollars :)

yea a front mount really isn't needed until 10 or so psi, to that point the upgraded side mount is plenty sufficient

i put down really good numbers on the turbolife FMIC and i'm stock turbo at 7psi so i'm pretty partial to FMIC's haha, plus they look baller.

well youve also got a turbolife front mount, the difference in piping length between the turbolife/perrin and pretty much all the other front mounts is HUGE

its a little longer piping than the upgraded side mount, with a larger and better cooled core...so youll see better gains daily driving with it....its kinda the best of both worlds lol

but they are impossible to find now since perrin doesn't make it anymore and turbolife's group buy is done...=(

what did you put down?

yea, it was a long time coming though...a lot of us waited months to get it lol

definately completed my last build though haha

The key was finding a used Hard pipe set. which really wasn't that hard, there for sale here all the time. maybe waiting a week for some MAM pipes to come up and jumped on them. The CXracing intercooler that I have I actually a really nice piece aswell, and a great buy for the cost.

You know this is a much debated topic on here. I was on your side of the fence about the SMIC under 10 PSI, but went with the FMIC anyway, and couldn't be happier. I have zero lag from the extra piping, the even pullers harder then with the stock SMIC (even when it hadn't been heat soaked yet). I am running 6 PSI on a GT28RS though, which equals around 9 PSI from the stock unit.

yea, a gt28 is a different story lol

and aren't you running the turbolife front mount? read what I said above about that as well =P
(post #12)

trust me, I've run 5 different fmic intercooler piping setups, and 4 different fmic cores...as well as ridden in/installed multiple different sidemount / hardpipe setups.....so I've got a little experience with what responds best

honestly: turbolife/perrin fmic ftmfw lol

your completely right about the Turbolife unit being the best of both worlds, Routing really is key. I'm going to be clocking the turbo this spring for that very reason. If I can get rid of some more piping It'll be that much better. I think the fact that my core is on the small side for Front Mounts is really why I'm getting the response that I have. If I had gone with a much bigger core I may be telling a different story.

i hate ebay crap just as much as the next guy, but CXracing on ebay has a nice fmic, thats what i run. i have install instructions if anyone needs them pm me. got the fmic, bov, and pipes for like 250
