BOV and warranty

no it will not.

Unless of course you break something and the dealership "says" it was your CAI or BOV. Chances of those 2 things ACTUALLY being the cause though are pretty low so you would probably be able to fight out of it with a call to Mazda USA... still a pain in the ass though.

I wish it were as simpla a answer as what Nutari posted. Its up to the dealer to determine if the aftermarket BOV caused the problem. Chances are they will

If your dealer tries to prove that a BPV/BOV caused a problem, they are idiots. Take it to another dealership.

acutally, a BOV can really F*** your turbo up if not properly installed.

You'll get no real hassle with the cai installed. Just pull your bov out before taking your car to get serviced... issue resolved.

A BOV can, and arguably should, void your motor warrantee. Makes you run excessively rich which may be bad for the motor and often can disintegrate your cats. Additionally if you have a poorly made or malfunctioning BOV/BPV it can leak causing the turbo to go out of it's efficiency range and pump hotter air, increasing the likelihood of detonation (which blows motors up). Also, if the BOV/BPV is stuck shut, it will cause compressor surge will kill your turbo in short order.

Old WRX guys have pre-turbo cats, and so you can imagine what problems they had from installing BOVs

Not very many BOVs are good quality and will either leak or stick shut. Based on what I've seen in 5 years in the Subaru world, Tial is the best by far, forge and Turbosmart seems to be ok. HKS BOVs (although it seems like there is a new version out) often leaked (you have to pressure test to see, it's not enough to observe you are hitting target boost) and Go Fast Bits BOVs are the biggest piles of s*** ever.

Just to clarify; BOV (vent to air) bad for the engine. BPV (recirculating BOV) necessary for the engine...

yup. they also make a hybrid, like what i have. 50% recir and 50% vta

I run a turbo xs hybrid , it takes 5 minutes to switch to stock if needed , does not backfire nor stumble and sounds decent without sounding too much like a wheezing asthma sufferer.
