Bouncy clutch engagement

:
2006 Speed6 GT
Hey guys, thought you might be able help me out with this one. Two weeks ago, the clutch became very sensitive (more so than before). Anytime I do any spirited shifting at all it appears that the engagement of the clutch it is very "on"/"off". There is nothing linear about the engagement anymore (I know on the speed6, linear might not be the best choice of words). The whole shifting experience is very herky/jerky.

2nd, 3rd, and sometime even in 4th gear, when I up shifting or down shifting, it has become very bouncy (herky jerky). If I rev match, every thing is okay. I don't think the clutch is slipping though ( I left it in 2nd at 2K and stomped on the gas and appears to be holding, also a 5th or 6th gear dig appears to be holding.)

My spd6 is a 2006 with 29K miles on it. I heared something about the motor mount. Would a m/m failure produce some of the issues that I am experiencing? If so, is that covered under warrantee?

I'll be taking it in to get looked at. I just want to be prepared if the dealer is trying give some B/S run around answer about my driving style or ability.

Thanks for chiming in everyone.

you need the clutch tsb done.

Could be the clutch TSB, but after 29k miles you would think he's got a handle on it. Anyway, it could still be a failed clutch disc in that the sprung hub has become un-sprung and allowed to flop back and forth within the center hub. Also could be a failed engine/trans mount allowing the engine to rock and seem like a clutch-related problem....

Just had mine done at 26k. His description is IDENTICAL to what mine was doing. (wiggle)

It's impossible to get a handle on it because it worsens as time (and wear) goes on. By the time I got mine in and they took it apart, they claimed my pressure plate was 'on the verge of collapse'. Not sure what that means, but by the time I got an appointment, it was impossible to drive in any smooth manner....and quick sprints from a stoplight? Forgetaboutit.

Go get it replaced before it gets worse and you get closer to the point where they deny you.

My appointment is in the morning. If it needs the work, then I'll get that scheduled as soon as freaking possible. Thank you everyone for the input. I wonder if I should I bring the TSB details with me when I take it in to get looked at. I hope these guys at the shop can figure it out. I stopped going to my previous dealer when they couldn't figure out how to program my key. (they kept programming my valey key witht the smart key in the car and kept telling me that everything works fine) Hahhahaha. I guess I'm lucky to have four dealers that are reletively near by.

The car is getting looked at as I type. Man I hope they figure out what the hell is wrong with it. I didn't mention anything about the TSB. I will though if they find "nothing" wrong. I took it for a test drive with the service manager and he verbally agreed with me that something doesn't feel right but that he'd have to review it with the service technician. Wish me luck.

They are trying to tell me that there is nothing wrong with my car. What BS. I then brought up the details about the TSB and immediately the service manager was like your car doesn't fall within the Vin #. I was since when did #33XX not fall between the numbers 0001 and 6359? What a croc. Then he was like, let me look it up and see what's going on. What do you mean let me look it up. One second earlier you just told me that it didn't fall between the numbers????

WOW. Heart rate is through the roof. Still waiting to hear back.....then maybe its off to another dealer.

Something doesn't feel right and then the Service Manager claims nothing is wrong? You may have to find a competent Service Manager.

Good luck!

If you don't get satisfaction there, print out the TSB and present it to the service manager of another dealership as soon as you arrive to describe the problem you're having. As good as my dealer is, and as cool as my service writer is, they had no clue about this TSB because mine was the first Speed 6 to come in for this problem. After reading the TSB and 'looking it up', they drove it, and immediately came to the conclusion that there was a problem. Don't leave it up to guesswork on their part....present them with the facts first thing and you'll likely get better results.

Good advice. :)

Thanks guys. This will be my next approach. I've only only got 4 or 5 chances to get this right before I start running out of dealers in the metro area and have to start heading out of town. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Mine does the same thing. I am noticing this more with mileage. 1st to 2nd makes a clunk. 43k on her now. Clutch is still as strong as the day I bought it. Street unit rear mount and turbine tech front mount and still can be jerky as hell if each shift is not perfect. I hate to bring this up at the dealer with these miles.

I've been feelin this way about my MS3. I have test driven other MS3's, some with more miles than my car and their clutches feel much stiffer than mine. And some days, I just can't tell but for the most part, the engagement seems sorta low then sometimes it's high.

Guys with the tsb done or new ms3's. How far is the clutch pedal from the center outside of the pedal to the carpet on the firewall? The workshop manual on the mazda 6 says it should be 8.25-8.5". I adjusted mine to that and its much higher than the brake pedal. Im just wondering how far it is with the tsb done?
