Bought a 2003.5 MSP missing the turbo

I was just concerened for him, cause here in ct its almost impossible to register a car with a rebuilt or salvage title.

i know someone who got a msp for just over 4500! and get this! it has a fully built motor! and its someone who is pretty well known on here! now he has 2 bad ass msp's

Wow, never knew about that..

The laws are tough here. I bought a 90 turbo rx7 with a salvage title a few years back for $1000 I though it was the greates deal on earth until i went to register it. Found out i had to tow it to the state dot to get it fully inspected, wich doesnt sound all that bad. well to make a long story short they pretty much strip the car to verify if any damages are left and that all repairs were made to state regulation and it cost 2800$ I went through with it just to have the car fail due to a inproperly sized bead of weld. Then found out to bring it back and have them reinspect it cost another 1000$. So after all was said and done that 1000$ car after the towing fees and inspection cost me 5500$ I could have just bought one that wasnt in a acident for the same price.

I just hope he doesnt have to go through the same cause in the long run its just not worth it.

Thats an awesome find. I paid 5500 for mine, it has some stuff done to it but no where near being considered fully built, lol

I checked the vehicle history report and it was totaled in a accident on 7/11/06 Rebuilt then resold on 5/9/08. It also states that there is a lien on the car. Did you get the title with the car? cause cars with loans cant be resold unless the buyer takes over payments. If you have the title See if it says salvage or rebuilt on it.

If its salvage, I am out. I asked this of the Toyota dealer and they said no. I have autocheck and it did not say totaled and rebuilt, just an accident. PLEASE, PLEASE PM me if you have additional info.

No money has exchanged hands. I have not seen the title.

damn, I rebuilt a salvage, they let me drive it to the inspection, and didn't tear apart a thing.. only thing I got nailed on was a battery tiedown.. they didn't even catch that the tailgate didn't latch, because the bent sheetmetal held it closed. lol

Well I have lifts and a couple of 20 year mechanics that can see anything. We will see in the next couple of days. I believe it does not have a salvage title, but may have had damage. We will see. I even have the good old paint detector for repainted panels. If not salvaged and not bent, then it should get a turbo transplant.

thats the one that was on craigslist right? it says it has a new motor and it runs great what happened?

Different car but also mine. Since I am not a sponsoring vendor...yet. I don't want to rile the admins and advertise cars for sale, but if you look at cars.com you will see another one.

I am going to become a vendor on Miata.net first, since I have a lot more of those.

BTW, a lady I know at Texas DOT ran the VIN# and the car came back clean.

you won't get any problems for that. this is an open forum. You can plug someone elses sale, there's a whole thread in the FS section regarding ebay items. The only way to piss the admins off is to sell your own crap without proper signage, or try to be running a business out of your house here without AV or AMM status..

sharing cars you've found for sale is for the good of the community, that could be one more member here who finds their new car..

vendor of what?

and glad to hear it came back clean... I'd want to physically see the title before I plopped down cash though, just in case.

search Mazdaspeed Production Numbers... theres a sticky with 2 PDFs... the VIN cross references to a production number. has nothing to do with the actual digits in the VIN.
