Bought 2 of 'em...(nOW wITH pICS)
Hi........My wife and I decided to ditch her big-ass '99 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, 40k miles...gas is just getting rediculous..
anyway we took out a silver 3i 4-door...pretty much base model.
Cut her monthly fuel cost in half... better insurance....and cheaper maintainance (not to mention built in Hiroshima Japan, ...not Mexico).
2.0L not too shabby at higher rpm. Nicely done interior feels much more like a pricey eurocar.
Hers was so nice, we ended up trading my '97 Impreza Outback Sport 2.2L 104k miles, 5-speed, (I really liked that car...feedback and AWD was the shiz)....still getting used to FWD pull again..
I was lucky....I liked the 5-door, so I ended up with the only 5-speed left....it was Silver like my wifes 3i....but obviously a 3s. I wanted it Black Mica with moonroof-cd changer package, but got lucky and ended up with the moonroof/cd AND leather package, lots of safety features (side air bags,ABS,remote-keyless entry,alarm.........no self-dimming compass mirror though
.....2.3L gives a good tug, but like the 2.0 not enough in the low RPM range (rev above 3500 to fix this drawback).
If your not feeling Fast nor Furious and simply want some good mileage.. keep it below 3000.
...Never would even have considered the leather package, until now. Boy it's nice,...really sweet. looks great with the rest of the black materials in the cab, and oh that leather smell...Mmmmmm.
I always wanted a moonroof and finally got one! The in-dash changer and 6-speaker setup is enough to keep me from f-ing up my dash installing new equipment. I wanted to swap out the 6x8's in the doors with my 5.25" infinity 3-ways from the Subaru... (but at 30 I just don't have the time for installs). Besides, the factory set up is nicely executed and sounds pretty good to boot! (especially for a ricer).
Crazy storage solution in the rear, atleast 5 configurations, weatherproof plastic compartments....cool. 17" alloys stock....cool.
Looking for some sensible mods for both the 2.0L and 2.3L engines/exhaust/etc. Under-drive pulleys, cat-back setup, performance computer chip...(are there even any chips made yet?), intake, lower? P225s?
For looks/function I want splashguards, moonroof wind deflector, and side window guards, slight tint job would be nice but blahblahblah...
So we now own 2 5-speed Silver Mazda 3's, the i and s. They're both outstanding cars for the Cash.....
