Both Windshield Washers Failing?

Strange thangs going on with my windshield washer(s) I was in northern Minnesota and it got down to 15 and both my windshield and rear window washer quit squirting. I could hear the pump(s) working but no flow. 2016.5 w/3,000 miles, purchased in Portland so I figure the dealer had a weak mixture of the Blue juice. Put it in a heated garage, thawed,, then I ran the tank dry. I thought it was dry, because both front and rear stopped at the same time, I figured it was the low level switch stopping the pump(s) Did not notice any indication on the dash re: low washer fluid so I figured it was not so equipped. Topped it off with -20F blue juice, "1/2 Gallon", ops good and patted myself on the back. Today 10F .... same thing!! The blue juice I used on the last service was some crappy brand, and I dont recall if the bottle was sealed so I went to the store got a new sealed bottle of the purple juice,(-25) and went to the heated garage to thaw. Here is where it gets interesting. I checked it after about 45 mins and both ends were flowing, so I alternated squirting the fluid (blue) until BOTH pumps went INOP. Empty right? NOPE! This time I looked at the fluid tank with a flashlight and the tank was 1/2 full? hmmm, so jumped back in and both pumps now are operative, continued squirting until they stopped again. Flashlight shows tank has maybe an inch of fluid. (again no low fluid light on dash, dont even know if it has one, just throwing that in) Topped with purple, about 85% of the new jug to top.

Why did both pumps appear to go inop while draining the tank at aprox 1/2? Most likely they went inop on both times, for sure the second time. Overheating?
Why no squirty at all three nozzles? If its an iced up squirt nozzle, I would have at least SOMETHING coming from one right? even if its a distorted pattern.

Works now, but I have not let the system with the purple juice cold soak, will know more in the AM. It crossed my mind that Mazda might have put a "smart" system in??? Wont let you squirt if the outside temp is below maybe 20F ??? Or maybe there is a temp sensor in the window, wont let you squirt if the glass is cold?? Lived in cold regions all my life, Barrow Alaska (-40F!!) and Anchorage Alaska, and Minnesota. this is a first. Did some searching on the site, no joy.

All comments welcome!! Thanks

Edit: manual shows on p. 1954-55 that its just one motor/pump assy. changes direction with polarity. ingenious! my honda has two motor/pumps. must have overheated the elect motor emptying the tank.

Yes I do believe you overheated the pump hence the motor stopped working with half of the windshield washer fluid in the tank. And yes my 1998 Honda CR-V has two separate (front and rear) washer pumps.

Could also be the old mixture froze and damaged the pump.

Working this morning!! 10F overnight. yea, good chance I overheated the pump trying to empty the tank. I thought there was two pumps at the time, dang it! Oh well. The only explanation as to why they would both fail like that with the pump running is a blocked/frozen feed to the pump. Warm air fixed it so if it does it again I am going to take my time to empty the tank, get it really low, and then splash some isopropyl alcohol in there!!

Rear washer hose goes down the roof on passenger side.

yea I saw one hose headed that way. its funny how many things, like this hose and even wiring have a wrap of foam around it and seamingly just laying there unsecured. looks like it works though. Well it was zero last night and it squirted today!! must have had a slug of water in the tank. going north and its going to be -22F sat. I started this at zero and no "complaints" as far as sounds from the engine, so that was cool.
