bosch plugs

This started in the "Sue Mazda" thread but I thought it should be
moved out of there.

The statement was made that Bosch plugs suck, and further modified to say that Bosch platinum plugs suck greatly (confirmed by another poster, who had had them fail quickly). However I've not yet seen anybody show that the Bosch Super plugs are a problem. The ones I have in my car are: FR8LCX, which in Bosch speak is:

F 16mm
R with suppression resistor
8 heat range
L thread length 19 mm
C copper
X 1.1 mm gap

The NGK OEMS are part number BKR5E-11. I couldn't find the translation for that on the NGK site but I'm going to guess that 11 is 1.1mm and that 5 is the heat range. Can somebody who speaks NGK part numbers give the full translation? Anyway, aside from (apparently) a different heat range in what way will these Bosch plugs suck compared to the NGKs?

I am not sure about the part numbers. I would not even think about it. So many posts about problems, I went out and got NGKs and never looks back at bosche since.

pasadena_commut,
I am going to tell you a lil story about how bad Bosch plugs suck. I had a spark plug FAIL on me two months after installation. Mine you I have never had this problem in the past from any spark plug. The cermanic insulator and center electrode broke off and went through my wife's piston! At the same time a check engine light came on and said I had a faulty spark plug in my P5! I yanked them out and put in the goodness that is NGK. I am currently working through Bosch on a warranty claim regarding her car. Oh by the way I love the people at AdvanceAutoParts(or the like). They never once said "Hey don't buy thoughs plugs they suck". Though when I came in to get a copy of my receipt for the claim they were like "Yeah bosch plugs suck". I work at Circuit City and if something sucks, I tell my customers! Man, what happened to good customer service.

Get NGK v-power and feel better.

Actually, when I first started getting the low idle stumble & mis-fire, the first thing I did was to pull & inspect the plugs. They were clean (11K miles on them) and the gap was still correct. BTW by the time I was able to get to the dealer after the CEL went on, the CEL had actually gone out & they could not replicate the mis-fire, just the OBDII code told them that Cyl # 2 was mis-firing.....

^same with no problems.

However - i really doubt any gains over stock NGKs vs the money.... (IMHO)

bosch makes a good spark plug, but they don't work well in our mazdas. they work real good in my vw golf though. heck thats all i run in my vdub. bosh plugs, batteries, wires, starter. bosch makes good products but their ment to run in german cars!!!!
